*ANGELIC & DEMONIC HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

I had no idea how the series would do a "movie," and WOW, I was blown away in all senses of the word -- this was a TOUR DE FORCE!

The animation, the mystery, the themes, the shipping -- this was everything I could have wanted to (for now) conclude the series and I have SO MUCH TO SAY about it -- I hope you all enjoy the reaction and discussion - sorry-not-sorry for the length!

This movie is an absolute masterpiece. The absurd amount of details everywhere is mind-blowing. It almost makes the first season look like a very standard show haha. (and as you said, I even noticed new things during your reaction despite having watched the movie many times !) Some people dislike the decision Homura made at the end, and call it selfish, but personally I think it's the opposite. Homura is playing the role of the villain, but if you look at the result, she's the ONLY one suffering from the result. - Madoka is alive with her family and not erased from time. - Mami has finally found a family by reuniting with Nagisa (Bebe's real name). By the way, "Mami" means mom in Spanish, and "Bebe" mean baby in Spanish ^^. - Sayaka is alive (not dead at 16), gets to see Kamijou again, probably hear him play the violin, and ALSO get to hang out with Kyoukou and more :)). Meanwhile Homura is farther away from Madoka than she has ever been, because she has an enormous gap in experience and information compared to Madoka. She basically controls this world, she could've made Madoka hopelessly in love with her or something screwed up, but she didn't. She literally just wanted Madoka to not be dead. And without even destroying what she achieved, because the Law of the Cycle still exists. Not something that I noticed myself, but when she talks to Sayaka about being "evil" and perhaps destroying the universe after all the wraiths have been defeated, her familiars are throwing tomatoes at her like a bad actor on stage. That would confirm to me that her whole "I'm evil" thing is just a facade. Moreover, had she just died and let herself get cleansed by god Madoka, the incubators would've still been around, trying to reach and destroy the "Law of the Cycle." But with Homura's rewritting of the universe, the Incubators finally seem somewhat under control. The details are up to speculations, but given Kyubey's look at the end of the movie, some people theorized that they're now capable of feeling emotions and that Homura makes them handle the curses of mankind. Either way, Kyubey's expressionless eyes have NEVER wavered during the entire show, even while being shot at or destroyed. Yet at the end, Kyubey's eyes seem full of distress and pain. The Epilogue breaks my heart each time. The half moon and Homura leaning against nothing on her chair symbolises that she's missing her "half", and is mirroring the scene where Madoka and Homura are sitting next to each other earlier in the movie. You can see when she hears noises she looks back expectantly, but then she looks disappointed after she realises it was just Kyubey. She was probably hoping for Madoka. The final shot of her falling from the cliff could even imply suicidal tendencies ? I don't know if I'm going too far with the interpretation but I'd say it at least symbolises a disregard for herself. It also mirrors Madoka T-pose falling from the chair in Homura's "despair" vision, meaning it represents the sacrifice Madoka first made, and now Homura's sacrifice.

I'm going to make this somewhat brief - glad to see other comments bringing up interesting points and discussion but thank you!! I planned on watching your reaction during the day on and off and I ended up being practically glued to the tablet for 2 hours haha. Really enjoyed your journey through this series and insights! And this is just such a great series to re-visit which I love to watch. I wonder how you'd rank your top 3 magical girl series (I'm assuming Sailor Moon and Madoka make the list) - so I'm mostly curious to what third series you enjoyed in the genre.

Thank you so much for the comments! Ahhh, I'm so glad you enjoyed the reaction! I definitely think this series will be a fun revisit for sure! And there's still more content for me to get through later this month, which is exciting! Ahh, honestly, I'm not sure I've watched any other magical girl series! Sailor Moon was really the only one I watched through - I've HEARD of Card Captor Sakura, and it's one I would one day LOVE to watch, but otherwise, this was my first dive back into the magical girl genre -- I'm not sure if other series will live up to the peak that is this one...but they can try! ;) Thank you for the comment!

The movie is just FRAME AFTER FRAME of art and I cannot imagine how watching each time will reveal something new! I’m glad the reaction showed something new for you! I agree with you – I really like this turn with Homura because of how much sense it makes for her character. You can definitely tell her character was suffering with the events of Episode 12, even if she tried to hide it. And yeah, Homura just wanted Madoka to stay alive and NOT be destroyed by Kyubey, which was sadly going to happen otherwise – it all makes sense to me, too! And if Kyubey was able to feel emotions at the end – THAT would be quite the development! That is such a good point to bring up about Kyubey’s eyes, too! That’s really interesting about mom and baby in Spanish for the two of them! Oooohhh, that’s SUCH a good notice about the tomatoes and Homura – I love that! Thanks for pointing that out! Ahhh, I hadn’t let that sink in that it’s Homura without her “other half” without Madoka there anymore from earlier in the movie. That IS so sad! Man…now my heart’s broken all over again, haha! Worth it for this movie, though! I don’t think, personally, that Homura was trying to commit suicide here or had those tendencies but I can see that perspective – she definitely seems bittersweet without Madoka, but doesn’t seem to regret her decision…definitely a bittersweet decision, though! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!
