Your voice is very similar to how mine ends up after spending a few days in a hotel, plus travelling by aeroplane. You don't feel unwell with it, just have a bit of a scratchy throat. I blame it mostly on aircon seeing as I only experience it at hotels and on aeroplanes, and fine that hot water with honey and lemon is typically enough to lubricate my throat and take away some of the scratchiness. I'm glad you're feeling okay after your trip though. Also you definitely do deserve the outpouring of kindness you received with the comments on Episode 5. You put a lot of time and effort into your reactions and discussions (nevermind the time it must take to edit, and respond to comments). You deserve to be appreciated. Luo Binghe is definitely a very emotional character, and it is understandable to see him flip out the way he does in this episode. It definitely gives him that bit of fragility that makes him even more of an intriguing character. I agree with you on Luo Binghe's Mum. She honestly makes me think of a character from the original game The Sims, with it's slightly more blocky graphics. Especially when shown next to the perfection that is Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu. But I do give the show some points for that. There have been times in anime and donghua, but mostly in manga/manhwa/manhua, where a character is meant to be gravely ill and/or dying and they're still ethereally beautiful. It's on the rare side that I get to see a character design where the character has a sallow, sickly complexion. Shen Qingqiu is all the more comedic because his internal thoughts like "Why did I risk myself for the protagonist?" are completely at odds with the external image he presents by acting like it's completely natural for a master to save his disciple, no matter the cost. And considering Luo Binghe only ever knows the external image, and not his panicking dorky self, it's truly no wonder the boy is all doe-eyed about his Shizun. For all that some people complain about the CGI for this donghua, I adore the expressions they give Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe. Especially when Shen Qingqiu's façade somewhat drops and his true feelings peek through with his softer looks and slight smiles. I laughed at you saying the Eye of Sauron "would shoot out Gandalf in a hot second" right before it did attack Nightmare 🤣 It says a lot that they had to bleep out the Harry Potter references back in Episode 2 for copyright reasons, but can get away with this. Also I may need an AU where Nightmare does gain access to what's hidden within the tree and it's a trove of fantasies Luo Binghe has had since his gay awakening 😂😂😂 This episode, seeing Luo Binghe work out Nightmare's true motives, truly made me love him as a character. It shows that, although he can be naive and innocent, he no longer takes things at face value and instead questions people's intentions. It's a great way, I think, of showing how much Luo Binghe has grown in regards to his mindset after seeing previously how much his martial arts skills had increased. Though him basically telling Nightmare that he doesn't know Shen Qingqiu like he does honestly gives me such Ariel from The Little Mermaid vibes 🤣 Then to end on Shen Qingqiu's nightmare of the pickle jar, but damn that deeper voice is distracting and has such a sultry quality to it in comparison to teenager Luo Binghe. But at least it doesn't feel just as much of a cliffhanger as the last few episodes. Protecting your partner is definitely a key element within Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's characters, and whilst I'd say Hua Cheng and Lan Wangji are very much about protecting their subsequent loved one, I do love that she doesn't diminish Xie Lian and Wei Wuxian's desire to protect their partners in return. And we do see the start of that here with Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe. Shen Qingqiu keeps almost accidentally protecting Luo Binghe, and Luo Binghe verbalised his desire to protect his Shizun, and used his own body as a barrier between Shen Qingqiu and Nightmare. It's truly nuts how we'll be on to the novel in a few weeks time. It really doesn't help that this donghua is on the shorter side for number of episodes as well as run time. Great analysis and theory crafting as always! Rule of eight next week 🎉

Oohohhh!! I I didn’t realize that was a thing! Aircon?! Interesting! My throat is super fine now, so that must have been it! And thank you! I really appreciate the kindness! It’s been really humbling the support from that episode. And YES! Usually with the MXTX protagonist’s love interests in HOB and MDZS, the “love interest” is intense emotionally, but also very in “control.” Having Luo be so emotional and a bit more “fragile” is actually refreshing! But YES, OMG, Luo’s mom DOES look like an old school Sim! X_X At least, like you said, they show someone actually looking ill! WILL SAY, THOUGH, the animation on Shen and Luo is next level good in some parts, especially. And ahhh, Shen our oblivious diva! That’s such a great point that Luo only sees the external stoic image of “control and power,” and not him being dorky and panicking…I’ll make note of that! I love that we’re getting Lord of the Rings AND Harry Potter references! Insanity! But yessss inside the tree hides the gay awakening of Luo! And YES – Luo showing he’s a smart cookie that is thinking things through! But also, him “knowing Shen” when he doesn’t REALLY know him is…oof. And for Shen to have to deal with Luo’s sultry voice? DOUBLE OOF. And both of them working to slowly show how they want to protect each other? It’s developing and I love it! And I just realized that the novel will be in a few weeks and I’m not ready for it! AHHH! But I AM excited! Thank you for the comment and kind words! 😀RULE OF 8! RULE OF 8!
