Thanks for another month of support! Here's what's going on this month for me and NerdSync. If you haven't been charged yet or your payment was declined, please take a few minutes to check to make sure that everything is working on your end. Here's a Patreon help article about declined payments if you're not sure why it happened and want to fix it.

Firstly, I am going on a long vacation in the middle of the month, so I'm trying really hard to get stuff planned in advance so I don't have to work at all. That's part of why I've been slow on updating Patreon here, so apologies for that.

In fun news, the Scooby-Doo live stream I did with Emily and Jay from Fancy Geeks last month was tons of fun! While the VOD of it didn't perform extreme numbers, I think it was a good time and I want to do more of that in the future. I'm planning on streaming to the NerdSync Sidekick channel with friends as we watch some weird old media, then taking that stream and having an editor chop it up into a fun VOD for the main channel.

Reasons for doing this:

  • I think it's fun!
  • It gives me more opportunities to hang with other creators and potentially introduce my audience to some new folks!
  • It's a really simple video idea, and I NEED those!

On that last point, I've been trying really hard to get better at having a schedule for YouTube SPECIFICALLY because I need hard deadlines for brand deals. So far, I've missed nearly every deadline because I keep researching and writing and editing loooooong past when I am supposed to have a video up. So having a video series that is basically "Scott hangs out with his friends while discussing old media" makes it much easier for me to have a backup video that I can put a brand deal on just in case I miss another deadline.

I promise it won't become the only type of videos I post on the main channel. I still have lots of regular NerdSync videos I want to get to. These stream VODs are more like bonus videos in between the bigger ones that I'll even have someone else edit so it doesn't eat up my time to make them. I stream with a friend, pass it off to an editor (who already edited the Scooby-Doo VOD and did a great job!) and then I'm free to work on my main videos!

I think it's a cool idea. Plus, my videos on old media like The Marvel Super Heroes are things that people tend to like, so hopefully this is my way of doing more of that, but in a different format.

Let me know what you think either in the comments here or on Discord!

Well, I certainly enjoyed the VOD. lol For real though, I can't wait to see what other creators bring to the format.
