I disagree with this. The death is still played straight, it’s a little cheaper but what he says there is still real and impactful because he does believe he was dying. Calling an emotional and sincere scene “pointless” because a character survives is silly

I think Lee is actually spot on with several characters being synonymous with their bankai. It makes a ton of sense within the world of Bleach, too, since a Shinigami's bankai is just about the purest representation of its user's personality/essence.

Byakuya surviving honestly ruined the character development of two characters. I can't go into detail because of spoilers but byakuya really should have died and that's what was originally attended. Kubu just wasn't prepared for just how popular of a character he was and was kind of forced to keep him alive.

If I’m not mistaken Kubo actually wanted to kill Byakuya there but the fan outrage forced him to keep him alive. If he wasn’t gonna kill him then I’m pretty sure he would have wrote an entirely different scene.

I really like Bleach as a series and the characters but holy shit I don't like stupid MC's like Ichigo. Bro got surprised at the fact that someone told him he couldn't beat Ywach. He is too used to plot armor of the series giving him repetitive glow ups and wins so he thought one glow up immediately meant he was winning. This is why smart MC's always are better

Regardless of my opinion on the topic a lot of people had issue with bleach at this point in the manga and onward. Hopefully the anime cleans some stuff up cause this is where it went downhill.
