I think a semi- first-grade was appropriate to send with the most up to date information he probably had. He was not informed on anything that happened with Itadori after his "death". So before his death Itadori with the help of Sakuna had defeated a 2 grade, special grade. I think the highest grade he was able to defeat in his own was a lower 3rd grade.And I guess that domesticating a curse is harder the more powerful they are. He also sent Todou which on his own can take down a special grade and multiple lower grades in one evening, Mechamaru a grade 1 sorcerer with means he is expected to beat a 1st class curse and should be able to fight special class curses on a similar lv. and he also sent 5 others to help them . I don't know how much more he could have done in a days planning and preparation!
