Nobody should be campaigning for major public office unless they have been asked to do so by local activists/politicos IMO Being thrust into leadership is terrible - it typically means no one else wanted to do the work. Also, young guys who thrust themselves into leadership without anyone else asking or endorsing, often end up weakening the organization. They often do it to boost their resume, or might just be naive. Not just running for POTUS, all random dudes who say they're running for Congress - but were never involved with local community organizations or politics, never helped fight for justice in any capacity - are a huge turn-off. Of course the locals aren't gonna be excited about someone who never showed up for them.
