Yeah it's hard to actually say if Kazuma would "do better" since he wouldn't have taken any of the same decisions that Subaru made, so he would most likely not have been involved with most characters Subaru is. That said, Kazuma is a lot smarter than Subaru and although he has heart too, he would still only sacrifice himself as a last resort (as he has done a few times). Sadly a few particular highlights of Kazuma's cunning in the LN haven't made it in the anime, for example when he came up with mixing earth and wind basic magic to create puffs of dust to blind a beast chasing them. The 1 day party switch with Dust would have been an amazing OVA.

The only reason Kazuma didnt die that often is because of his luck, sure Subarus deaths are displayed more. But Kazuma died too, and sometimes in very painfull deaths. But they are played as jokes. Kazuma even said in the movie, the part where you die, is the most scariest and painful one. Also the world in Konosuba seems like its fairly peace full, but dont forget that Aqua said that a Demon Lord is slaughtering alot of people in the world. And Axel, the beginners Town, is the farthest away from that Demon Lord.

Ah yes the last scene that brought the ever lasting debate how well Kazuma would do if he switched places with Subaru. I'm personally in the "Kazuma would do better" camp. Not saying he wouldn't die but even if we don't count his insane luck, Kazuma is very intelligent and would figure out stuff way faster. He doesn't have the personality and heart of Subaru though so he probably wouldn't get along with other characters as well. Hell, he'd probably not even help Emilia lmao and would 100% drop kick Rem.
