WillGlacier

And so the show goes from "happy slice of life" to "oh fuck my sister is dead"

WillGlacier

Fucking love how they explain how dragons work. Shit 80% of this show is basically the entomology and biology of fantasy creatures and I dig it

Justin Spencer

Ok ok ok a rare roshi dub you ate that knife prediction sheera wyd he caught you lacking on the predictions 😂

KomodoughDragon

never been so happy for an early upload in my life

Ara Araragi

They were never expecting to find Falin alive, they just wanted to get to her while there was still enough "her" left to resurrect. Ironically, their original plan was to have the dragon use up its fuel stores so it couldn't breathe fire, but they didn't know that Falin WAS the fuel. If the plan hadn't gone to shit, there would be nothing left of her body.

Pai-Sal

This sh*t is so peak! The balance! We got comedy, we got action, we got cooking show, we got adventure, we got dark element, we got world building and the most important thing is we got free recipes how to cook monsters!

Chibi

Imagine if they stuck with the plan to expend all of the dragons fire breathe. It would have used all of Falins bones and they wouldn’t have found them

KomodoughDragon

The thing about Laios and gang is that they're just regular people who are very experienced and come very prepared. None of them are extremely overpowered in the kind of way typical of most fantasy anime. They are good at their specific jobs, but they all have a lot of flaws. The reason they get by is BECAUSE they take things seriously and try their best not to leave things to chance. Laios' knowledge of monsters sets him apart from most adventurers. It's much easier to plan and take down monsters if you know their habits and their anatomy. It's largely why they've gotten so far. But he's clueless when it comes to people and his trust in monsters is naive at best (Kensuke screwed them over big time this episode). Senshi knows his way around the dungeon because he's been living there for so long, and he knows how to survive off the land, even if he's not necessarily a big fighter. Chilchuck can't fight at all, but he's alert and knows how to keep the rest of the team from dying due to their own stupidity and lack of spatial awareness. He also tends to pick up on things before the others do. And yeah, Marcille is very educated on magic and highly talented, but she often hesitates, panics, and has a lot of trouble with thinking on her feet or coming up with out-of-the-box solutions. None of these people are amazing on their own, they just work very well together. Without any one of them, the entire group would fall apart. It's part of why I love this anime and manga so much. The group doesn't live by the rule of cool like other fantasy MCs, they always live by the rule of *real*.

KingdorismHD

The upcoming 8 episodes are goated and dark

KomodoughDragon

Laios wins brother of the year. It's refreshing to watch an anime where the siblings are just normal about each other. Laios loves his little sister and was willing to lose a leg for the slim chance that she might still be recoverable. And yeah sure, Marcille healed him, but I don't think anyone would willingly lose a leg if they weren't SURE they'd be okay without it on the off-chance something went wrong.

Legion

And ecology! When I watched it I was surprised that it was more than just cooking

Lūthér Hölâyèãhmé

In all the resurrections we have seen, the bodies at least still had flesh on them. Falin is literally a whole ass skeleton.

Hans Wurst

Roshi: "This got real dark" - you ain't seen half of it yet!

Bloodcrusnik

All healing magic is necromancy, imo. Necromancy isn't evil magic. Enchantment magic is evil, being able to control another's will is the greatest of evil.

Abigail Clark

God I love this show so much. I can't wait for ya'll to see the next two episodes

Ash

We here. Finally!

OwO

finally, we are now going to the dark side of the show

Delinda Arts

the level of locked in you gotta be to do what Laios did. Gotta keep the family safe fr. Peak.

Peach

I loved the show from the beginning but episode 11 solidified this show as amazing for me, I had to go read the manga once this season finished.

Trevor

Glad they came back and decided to give this another shot. We hitting the turning point now gang

cyberspacecat

This is definitely the episode where DM tips its hand, they played that reveal so well, excited to see your future reactions!

SoggySoup

Well, here we go.

SoggySoup

Also, where-as Frieren was sorta inspired by TTRPG’s this is very inspired. Author is a huge fan.

SoggySoup

Would it? I’d think the liquid fuel would be expended and the bones would need ”digesting”. Damn.

Fobbles

Is anyone else having the experience with this show where you go “ok this seems kinda fun” But then you get to this episode and go “WHY IS THIS THE BEST SHOW?!?!”

Imari

True but I assume they can still resurrect her if they just use the meat of a pig like they do irl or maybe a monster cause of what the show is about

Yamada

Finally we are here! But why did this not notify on my end😅

KomodoughDragon

Yep! Kui is a big fan and there's a lot of Pathfinder and Wizardry influence especially in DunMeshi. I think Kui does worldbuilding far better than most of the other big fantasy mangas, DunMeshi is unmatched in that regard, there's so much attention to detail. It's on a smaller scale, but it's airtight. There's a reason behind everything that shows up, and everything is connected really well.

KomodoughDragon

They've mentioned several times that they needed to get to Falin before she was too digested so that she'd be recoverable. That's why they were banking on the dragon sleeping so its digestion would be slowed. Digested Falin is a *bad* thing. Really wish there hadn't been cut content last episode, it would've explained this better.

JonJon's Kooky Quest

A few episodes back Lupa called that it was a mythril knife and I had to keep my mouth shut not to spoil that he was right since it’s a reveal in this episode 😂

Lightbane1905

This is the "Sh** just got real" episode that really brings to light how Dark this anime can actually be.

Hasnain Khan

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

sordid mirth

to be fair, it's been like a week since she got ate, it would be IMPOSSIBLE for her to survive in there especially with the heat of its body and the claustrophobia.

Isaac

Man the og plan failed horribly but they all pulled through with the clutch and took down a whole red dragon. Talk about an anime miracle.

Coatl45

When they said that the stuff in the gizzard was used as fuel, they meant the methane gas that came from the decomposed flesh in the gizzard, not that the bones and stuff are actually converted into fuel in real time.

Drake Chuckle

Patreon notifs are so inconsistent. If they drop 4 things it'll notify on like 2 of them max.

angelalala

Marcille put defensive spells on them all prior to the mission. That's why Chilchuck and Senshi were able to survive all that (though they were still hurt).

Nita - Kento's Widow

The "congrats..?" from Roshi got me because I was the same lmaoo

Cameron Robinson

You can’t hold the handles of the pot when using it as a shield against fire.

Cameron Robinson

This show has pretty consistently shown that when healing. The blood returns to the wound area so it seems healing/resurrection still requires some tissue and cells and stuff like that so I don’t know how that’s gonna work when Fallin doesn’t have any.

Victor

You know shit is serious when there is no cooking and eating scene in an episode.

Isaac

Do what Steritter Z the Zombie did that one time in Bleach.

TOBSULTRAMAN80085

true thats why i wasnt mad when they dropped this in the beginning because although i might find it fun maybe its not for everyone. but then this episode dropped and i thought "holy shit they gotta watch this"

Gonkdroidthecritic

That’s crazy how I didn’t notice that just until you brought it up😱. That how good this episode is!!!

Cinmnapple

Fallin boutta come back lookin like Jack Skellington

Pan Cakes

This is the basically THE TURNING POINT

Gonkdroidthecritic

I don't know if this is just a me thing, but when they suddenly see something dark in Dungeon Meshi, they either try to deny the reality thinking it's some dream, or be completely speechless. They acted like this never before and were all new to the sudden changes even though they witnessed ogres murdering a bunch of barflies, Kabru’s party getting killed over and over, and Laio’s party slaughtering and eating monsters all day to survive. Were they unfazed at that moment😭? Oh well, I find this pretty moment hilarious to watch😂. Keep up the content 👍.

sotonye ogan

Marcielle be fighting urge to be changing her hairstyle every gahdamn second lmao

NecDW4

LETS GOOOO! The real D in D starts now!

Brandon Acevedo

This series kinda reminds me of "Ranking of Kings", don't let the art style fool you into thinking that there isn't some dark stuff here.

CentipedeKid

Why Is anyone shocked? A dragon age her whole and she was in there a long ass time. She'd be dead in minutes from not being able to breathe. There also isn't water in the dragon she was in there over a week. It was delusional to think she lived and someone should have said it.

Jojo_avena

Random point out to the show apparently if u notice Marcille has changed her hair style about 36 times through the adaptation.

GormleyPeach

They're not surprised that she's dead, its that they stated early on that normally a dragon doesn't roam around much and therefore takes a long time digest it's food, so getting back to her even within a week or more she should have been pretty preserved. So basically they should have had plenty of time to revive her but now it doesn't seem possible.

Khaoticsuccubus .

I’d think breathing would be a major problem as well. Lack of oxygen and all the fumes and whatnot.

Vincent S Deluca

Its not a surprise she's dead, they expected that it was a guarantee. But dragons usually arent very active and digest slowly, hence her body would still be mostly intact inside the dragon for at least a week or 2. But for whatever reason the dragon has been roaming a lot which threw off the plan/timeline and it digested much faster than it normally would

cyberspacecat

I think it's because it's just so brutal, they're sacrificing limbs, digging through dragon guts with bloodied hands and picking through the bones of their former comrade in arms. The gore factor has been largely minimal up to this point.

Giyuu

they clearly wasnt expecting that... base on their reaction they thought she was still alive inside the dragon giving it a stomach ache. both are yall read his comment wrong the characters expected her to be dead but lupa roshi and sheera didnt and thats what hes talking about..

Royal Lucario

Will you guys react to the new deadpool movie?

KomodoughDragon

Also there's two parts to the pot, only one of them has handles on the sides. Laios had the lid, which only has one handle on the back of it, nothing on the sides where he was holding it. I imagine holding just the handle on the back wouldn't have been as stable, and flipping the lid backwards would have meant taking the full force of the flames into the lid, rather than having the flames glance off the top.

KomodoughDragon

She would've suffocated for sure. But also like, the stomach acid would have been awful, too. There was no way she was surviving, and every possible death scenario was bad. Asphyxiation would likely have been the "best" option.

KomodoughDragon

I don't think I'd say the show got dark out of nowhere. I think a lot of people just go into the show used to the common tropes in fantasy anime, e.g. characters having all the luck on their sides, characters being practically unkillable, deus ex machina type plot armour. We're told from the beginning that Falin is dead. There's no way anyone could survive being torn in half by a dragon's teeth and then eaten, let alone survive that for the week+ it took them to get there. We also see time and time again that these people are just regular people. No one has any super secret powers, no one is inhumanly strong, they're just experienced, knowledgeable, and determined to make the best out of a very bad situation. This is the first big scene where things go wrong, but it's not unprecedented. The show hasn't shied away from blood before, and I wouldn't even call this episode excessive or gratuitous. It's just realistic. Of course they were going to have to carve through the dragon when they got there, there was no other way to get to Falin's remains. Laios losing his leg and the dragon losing its eye were the most "brutal" parts of this, but Senshi said it best--in all their time leading up to this, was there any monster that didn't fight its hardest to stay alive? This time, *they* were the ones fighting desperately to stay alive against something immeasurably stronger than them.

Wild

Btw for roshi and the gang the reason the damage they all took wasn’t fatal or deadly the elf girl gave them some form of force field that would nullify a lot of the damage they were gonna take which is why they are all alive but all fucked up, cause senshi got stepped up and chickchuk should’ve gotten a concussion lmfao

KomodoughDragon

I don't expect them to read any of it. I just enjoy the show and like to contribute to discussion the same as everyone else in this thread. Weird ass comment to make in the discussion section of a post, honestly. Do you navigate your entire life like this or is it just the keyboard that makes you an asshole?

CentipedeKid

Based off the last episode they actually thought she would be alive. Only the mage asked the question what if she's dead.

YungZeus

Hearing a dragon clicking their tongue when they’re about the blow flames, probably sounds loud asf and terrifying.

MR_V1B3Z

I guess it's too late to use Phoenix Down

Phroug

I said it to hurt your feelings a tad bit and it worked, i'm satisfied

Yamada

Can't wait for the next episodee
