Idk if it was me but when she said she lived up until five years ago I took it as she was born and grew up in Japan moved to Russia five years ago and then just recently came back to Japan when she transferred to this prestigious school

for some reason I have a feeling the language in Mushoku Tensei is heavily inspired by russian because watching this made me think they were speaking the made up language in mushoku tensei

That translation was a bit confusing but Alya was saying that she lived in Japan her whole life until 5 years ago when she moved back to Vladivostok in Russia. After those 5 years in Russia she moved back to Japan in 3rd year of Jr. High where the flashback took place (1 year before present). Also usually when they say "given name" in anime they're talking about first name. Masachika is his first name and Kuze is his last name. I'm guessing Kuze was his father's last name and Suo was his mothers. I'm assuming Alya just referred to him as Kuze to his sister so she didn't know his first name before (Besides when they were children).

cuz its going the Quintessential Quintuplet route. Only one wins while the others lose. If it wasn't a realistic kind of anime, it could even go through the Mushoku Tensei route as well.

Alya never calls Masachika by his first name, Masachika because of like the formalities must like in Kaguya-Sama, Kaguya only ever calls Miyuki, President or Shirogane. The culture in japan is that people call each other by their first names only when they're a family member or really close but as acquaitance or co-workers they call each other by their surnames. Because alya said his name as "Kuze" which is his surname, Masha is unaware it was masachika the whole time considering she probably never even knew his full name, only Masachika. And because she has a nickname for him, "Sa-Kun" and doesn't use "Masachika", alya doesn't know that they've already met before all the more making things complicating.

In Japan they use last name as first name for modesty. Machika or however you pronounce it is his name. He took his father last name, but when he was little he had a different last name.

I don’t see how it’s a harem. If she didn’t know that Alya has feelings for him, then maybe Masha would have said something, but with that knowledge, Masha is going to do her best to take this secret to the grave so that she doesn’t get in Alya’s way. Even if it does come to light, she’s going to do everything she can to push Alya and Masachika together. And that’s ignoring the fact that Masachika probably has stronger feelings for Alya than the girl who the only thing he can remember about her is that he learned Russian to speak to her.

It’s true. Yuki’s surname is Suou, not Kuze. Sheera did get a little confused about the “given name” part, though — that part was referring to his first name (which Masha didn’t know at first to make the connection)

Ok so masha looks different in the flashback bc it was from kuze’s perspective and he forgot how she looked. Also in the first episode they said masha turns down guys bc she has “a boyfriend”. She meant kuze. So masha has been in an imaginary relationship with kuze all this time. Crazy . It’s so messy and I feel bad for masha

The singer of ep 2's outro is actually the Japanese pop singer Ado, which is cool because she doesn't do a lot of music for anime.

My theory is that he played with both of the Kujou sisters but only remembers playing with one Russian girl, and that's why their features have merged in his memory. Sort of like a Quintessential Quintuplets situation. Either that or he remembers playing with Alya, but he doesn't remember his interactions with Masha.
