Here we are! Voiceclaims for most of the Shepherds!

This took me TWO DAYS to put together and my computer deleted the folder with the audio files twice! 😭

I'm going to go with the usual disclaimer and state that these "voiceclaims" (like faceclaims, artbreeder, or even art) are not exact in any way. They do not perfectly capture things like accents, pacing, inflection, or etc., and often times are merely approximations for us to springboard off of--not gospel by any means! Most of the time I chose them due to similar register and pitches, but unless I hire voice actors myself, it will never be a perfect likeness!

As such, I will be including my rating of how accurate these voiceclaims are below!

So, don't take any of this too seriously and feel free to imagine the voices the way they're described in the game: if you don't want to have your imagination "polluted" (totally fair), then I advise you don't listen to the audio file above!

Also, Trouble, Halek, Croelle, Mimir (who I feel like would be matched with Tara Strong but I didn't have time to comb through her acting reels), Chandry, and Caine are not included in this file. I just didn't have time for the majority of them, and Trouble was just way too hard to pin down, so I had to omit him this time! I may do a "Round 2" with them in the future, though, since it was kind of fun (albeit time-consuming) listening to voice samples and making lists and whatnot!

Also, a stupid amount of these clips come from Fire Emblem compilations. Protip: it's a GREAT resource for finding your own voiceclaims for your OCs because it's a series with a TON of characters and diverse voice actors (like hundreds) in each entry!

Also also, I did my best to make this compilation smooth, but there are some transitions and clips that aren't the same volume as the others. Sorry if any of it's loud!

Okay, on to the list!

0:00 Blade

(If the beginning of the clip sounds cut off to you, try dragging the slider back and playing it again, I noticed it takes another try--for me at least--to "warm up"!)

0:00

Cody Christian

Grade: B

Blade speaks in a similar register and pitch, and there's that slight gravelly-ness in both of their voices, but I imagine Blade's voice to be a bit deeper as well as flatter and even less emotional lol.

0:29

Takahiro Sakurai

Grade: B

The irony is that Takahiro Sakurai is Cody Christian's Japanese counterpart on the Final Fantasy VII Remake... I guess that's just good casting? Anyway, the tone and pitch are pretty similar (though I still imagine Blade a bit deeper), but I give myself a B for having to resort to Japanese.

0:43

Noriaki Sugiyama

Grade: B

The B is for anime.

0:50 Tallys

0:50

Laura Bailey

Grade: B+

Laura Bailey's portrayal of Lust in FMA is very close to Tallys' general pitch and intonation. However, Tallys doesn't sound that broody/sad all the time and is generally more calm and even.

1:14 Shery

1:14

Stephanie Sheh

Grade: A-

Shery's voice isn't quite that high or breathy, but it's really pretty close!

1:18

Dorothy Fahn

Grade: B-

Dorothy Fahn portrays Mercedes (Fire Emblem: Three Houses) as kind of a ditzy airhead, which isn't really how Shery talks, but the high pitch is pretty close!

1:25 Riel

1:25

Kirk Thornton

Grade: B

I think Riel speaks in a sharper, more clipped voice rather than the sort of slow drawl of Kirk Thornton's Jin (Samurai Champloo), but something about it still rings true!

1:40 Chase

1:40

Joey Zieja

Grade: A-/B+

I go back and forth on this: it's fairly decent when it comes to Chase, but it's not exactly there, either! I think the second voice clip in this segment (the tinnier one) gets farther away from Chase, though the words and the speed at which he says them are accurate; the tinnier one sounds, like, raspier or nasally or something, whereas the first one is smoother and closer to Chase's voice!

2:10 Ayla

2:10

Marisha Ray

Grade: B+

Marisha Ray captures the deepness and raspiness of what I think of when I think of Ayla, but this portrayal is also kind of jock-y? I also still picture Ayla's voice being somewhat harsher!

2:25

Elizabeth Daily

Grade: C

It's way too high for Ayla's voice, but the spunkiness and raspiness is what I was going for!

2:30 Red

2:30

Billy Kametz

Grade: B

This doesn't quite hit it, but it's close! Red's voice is exactly medium, not super deep or super high, and I think Billy Kametz captures that. It sounds like he's putting on an aristocratic, slightly deeper emphasis at certain parts, though, so it's not perfect and dead-on for Red. A good approximation, though!

2:47 Briony

2:47

Faye Mata

Grade: A+

This is exactly how I imagine Briony talking! I originally threw in some Britt Baron fighting noises in there as well, but the sounds were too hard to isolate from the background sounds--but yeah, Britt Baron as Tifa punching things is also pretty close!

3:13 Lavinet

3:13

Tara Platt

Grade: A

The deepness and regalness of Tara Platt's voice here matches Lavinet's very well! I think Lavinet's voice is a bit smoother and more musical, but it's pretty close!

3:33

Liz Callaway

Grade: A+

I give myself an A+ just for bringing back this absolutely rockin' song from Anastasia.

3:50 Prihine

3:50

Cassandra Lee Morris

Grade: A+

Absolutely dead-on. I never heard Prihine's voice in my head before but now I do. The snootiness is so... perfect.

4:03

Melissa Fahn

Grade: A

Yeah, pretty good!

Do you have any suggestions for the other characters who weren't included this time? Post any links or names+portrayals you've thought of for Trouble, Halek, or any of the others--and let me know in the comments if these voiceclaims matched what you had in your head or totally threw you! 💖

👀 very interesting! I can hear all of these, but I personally just hear Travis Willingham as Mustang in FMA: Brotherhood for Blade XD maybe Laura's portrayal as Serana in Skyrim might be closer for Tallys? 🤔 As far as new voices go, may I suggest Paul Amos as Jacob Frye in Assassin's Creed: Syndicate for Trouble? Not perfect, but I can't shake it XDD and maybe Maxey Whitehead as Alphonse Elric (also FMA: Brotherhood, sorry XD) for Caine, my boy, my son boy?
