It's about time for me to get started on the next comic, and I wanted to bring up comic voting, which is one of the rarely-utilized perks on the Platinum Tier.

In the past I would put together a poll of various comic ideas, both m/m and m/f, and ask my Platinum patrons which they would prefer to see. A perfect plan, I thought! Except some problems arose:

First, I realized that given a choice between m/m and m/f content, m/m will win the majority vote every time. Since I have an interest in both types of content and want to strike a balance, that's an issue!

The second is sometimes there are ideas that I really, really want to work on, but it may not line up with what my patrons are into at the time. And while I wouldn't put an idea on the poll if I wasn't somewhat interested in making it, a comic takes a very long time from start to finish, and I'd rather be working on the projects that I'm 100% jazzed about.

I want my next major comic to be Passing Love 2, and I feel like if I put it on a poll it would probably win anyway! So for the time being, I will be removing the voting perk from the Platinum Tier. Because of the great expanses of time that occur in-between each opportunity to exercise that perk, I am not sure how people feel about this, but I would be happy to hear anyone's thoughts if this is a jarring change.

 [Update]

When I wrote the above post, I honestly wasn't sure if the voting privileges were very important to people, since the opportunity only came about roughly once a year. I know now that there are some folk who found this a valuable perk, and I feel I was hasty in outright removing it, even for a short time.

The issue of balance is easily solved by swapping out choices for the polls to all M/M and all M/F when it comes time for each. And if there ever is an idea on the poll that I'm not super jazzed about, that's really my own fault!

For the past year I have been getting a lot of people asking me when Passing Love 2 is coming out, so I really felt like I had to get that comic going sooner rather than later. Because of this, I felt a growing anxiety about the upcoming poll, and the possibility of putting PL2 off in lieu of something else. Because it takes me so long to finish each comic, it could have meant another year of people asking me where PL2 is.

However, if there really is such anticipation for Passing Love 2, then it would probably win the poll, like I predicted above. While I appreciate the support of the people who don't mind whether there's a poll or not, I no longer feel like removing them is the best solution.

My major goal is to come up with a reliable comic style that is simpler and easier to finish up, so that more comics can be made during the year, and that maybe I could do multiple comics at once! ...That may be far-fetched unless I grow a couple extra hands, but we'll see how it all pans out.

Anyway, I apologize for the back and forth, and I greatly appreciate the feedback. I'll be organizing the next poll, so look out for that soon! And if people have any suggestions for ways I can improve the Platinum Tier (short of offering commissions), let me know.

I’m fine with that. I’m a supporter, not a puppeteer.

Teaf Sochi

Though a M/M comic would still be fair after our last comic hahaha

That’s fine! Can’t wait for the next comic!

I think the easiest way for you to start hating your work is to do things you don't really want to do. So I'd rather you be happy with what you do, and i'll continue to support, regardless!

Dematraxus

I think it's a great balance, and overall a great idea. I personally find that when an artist works on something he is passionate about it gets done faster, and overall it has a better turnout. And I don't think any of us want you getting burned out LOL.

Tsarin

I am very interested to see Passing Love 2, and you're right that I'd probably vote for it if it was on the next list! I totally understand wanting to go back and forth, which makes me wonder if it'd make sense for you to declare that you're going to do 1 straight and one m/m comic back and forth? But then of course that raises other problems XD Maybe you could do something like voting every other comic, and then artist choice for the others? Or heck, just removing the perk is fine too, it's not as though you've ever created something I didn't enjoy anyway, so whatever you make is good with me, whether I voted for it or not!

I mean as someone who's paying for platinum, a tier that costs $4 more than the next tier I'm starting to feel a little cheated. I enjoy the content you make, I'm bi so I don't really care if it's m/f or m/m. However when I first started we were also promised access to the commission queue, that went. Well at least we had voting power... I mean at a certain point if you want to keep all your platinum folks you're gonna need to throw them a bone yknow.

Ninja1011

I am totally ok with this. If it was a pin up or quick image, the voting would work. But a whole comic that takes a lot of time and planning, I feel has to be a labor of love. Draw what you love bruv, I’ll be here~!

It's already been mentioned before but it deserves being mentioned again. Do what you are interested in, it will be a better piece of work then something you're not really into

10000% Ready for some more Passing Love! Can't wait!!!

Blue Bone Dog

I don’t think I saw the original passing love, so it’s fine by me.

Kaizer

I'm cool with it

Anonymous

As long as there’s cocks in it I’m fine.

Orangebunny

Well, as you are interested in both. Why not do a couple of ideas with M/M that you are interested or jazzed about. Then after that comic if you are feeling more F/F or M/F do a couple of options in that. That way you get to be jazzed about what you are doing, and we will be happy regardless. Though as long as we get a few extra dick pics along the way. *Wink-wink nudge-nudge*

invidious

I'm not super thrilled at having the voting taken away, though you articulate the reasoning very well. I'm mostly here for M/F stuff, but I still enjoy M/M to a degree, and it's only fair that they get a bone :P

Skye Blazer

Definitely cool with more M/F stuff. I’m sure whatever you come up with for an idea, it’ll be fantastic.

Meesh

Stacking the deck with all of one or the other was my way of getting around the balance issue in the past! The last poll I made was all M/F options, since the previous two comics were M/M oriented. I would prefer to go back and forth with each new comic.

Meesh

I'd like to switch between M/F and M/M with each new comic, although ideally I'd be fast enough to where I could just do both at once! After thinking about it more, I'm not wholly opposed to the voting as a concept, as there's ways of getting around the balance issue. I just think it's quite important I work on Passing Love 2, so I felt like I needed to pull an executive order and move ahead with that idea. I think voting could absolutely return if I could make my comic turnaround quicker, and each comic didn't take a whole year to complete.

Anonymous

Can you point me to part 1, that's all I have to ask lol?

Anonymous

Also to add, I think you should work on whatever you like. I have no idea what my sexuality is, I like most things so it's not a huge deal to me. Plus I love your art style that's why I stick around. I think like some others have said, maybe do a pin up or 2 in between and let us vote on that :)

Meesh

I'm sorry that you're feeling cheated-- that's the last thing I want to happen. In this particular instance, It is important for me to get Passing Love 2 underway, rather than leave the choice up to patrons. The polls will return once I complete PL2 and settle on a quicker style so that the turnaround for each comic won't take a year. Quicker turnaround will hopefully mean more opportunities to exercise voting power! As for a Patreon commission perk, I don't remember ever offering something like that. It's possible my memory is faulty in that regard, but I recall that a big reason for starting my Patreon was that so I could move away from taking commissions. However, I'm open to suggestions on ways I can make the Platinum Tier better.

You can find part 1 here! https://www.patreon.com/posts/june-roundup-12508122 Some of the responses here have brought up valid concerns about the outright removal of this perk, and I still think polls can have a place in the tier-- in this particular instance it is important for me to work on Passing Love 2, rather than leave the possibility of something different. My major goal in the near future is to settle on a quicker style for comics, so that new comics can come around more often, and thus people will have more chances to exercise their voting power. We'll see how it works out!

Eric Avila

i remember once a while ago you said you'd be interested in hiring a assistant like part time to help you get comics out faster but because of your attention to detail you kinda don't know if you can trust other people handling your work, have you thought about this for future project?

Shad

I got into this a bit late (was reading the original post when your edit came out) but I am glad that you are keeping the polls ... as a platinum, that really is a perk that I enjoy and feel that it helps make the cost of that tier more worthwhile. I wouldn't reduce my tier level if you ever did get rid of the poll but I wouldn't appreciate the loss, either. So, I am glad that you have changed your mind and hope that things work out for you the way you want one. Ultimately, you are the creator and it's really up to you in the end.

Meesh

There are only a handful of stages in the process that I would feel comfortable handing it off to someone else. Otherwise I worry that the style would drift too much.

I vote that you do whatever you enjoy and I’m sure many of us, including me, will still be a fan :)

Love the fact you ask for our feedback and o the polls, would love to see Passing Love 2 come to life as that's the comic that introduced me to your amazing work!...and part of the reason I became a member ;) Since becoming a member I've enjoyed every piece you've created for us and that's in part because of your passion when creating. So if you're not feeling PSL 2 now and wanna do something else that's cool, do it, you're the artist and a talented one at that my friend....would love to see m/m, m/f, f/f all in one comic too as an fyi ;) Cheers!

Meesh

That is a very sweet message! Thank you so much for your support, I'll remember that if things get tough :)

Anonymous

Honestly I will always support you when I can regardless of which comic you are making (I guess it helps im Bi :p). But I know that art takes alot of effort and if you arent happy then I dont get your wonderful art!. Idk what im saying tbh. But Go with what makes you happy.

Kadath

It’s okay to do a smaller project before continuing with a longer one, especially if the level of detail people expect from the longer project will be high. A smaller experimental comic to recharge the creative batteries isn’t a bad idea. Good things come to those who wait, and I think fans would rather wait and see Passing Love 2 be lovingly crafted than pushed out there to fulfil demand if you’re debating also trying something else.

FuzzyLopunny

Do what you have to I been following you this long don’t see a reason not too. Plus if this is something you feel you have to do then so be it. I won’t stop supporting you over something this minor in my opinion. I honestly forgot that was part of the tier. Your comics are always so enjoyable and those wips are really helpful for my art. So Thanks for everything.

FeliciaIsMaiWaifu

I appreciate having the option to vote. While I do prefer either M/M and M/F, I prefer the latter. I'm glad you're not getting rid of it.

Maurick

Hey bro, so I know you’re swamped with replies. But I saw where you were gonna do multiple comics at the same time. I just wanted to say you do what you’re happy to do! Don’t overwork yourself and not enjoy the crafts you make. Honestly, I believe whatever work rate you choose, people will always wait for it. You’re a talented artist: we can’t wait to see what’s next regardless!
