I thought it would be very cute to have Jacob's snout poking through the door, but then was concerned it would come across as too comedic. The comic has had a couple of comedic moments already, but I pondered if the snout-through-the-door thing was too far. I explained this concern to a friend, who said that they didn't perceive this moment to be comedic at all. And so the snoot stays. The panel would have been pretty bare without it, anyway.
