Yokohama, September 1st, 1923. A city of liberal ideas like labor unions, women's rights, and democracy. A city of foreign delights like chocolate and cigars. A city about to be destroyed! Buildings collapse crushing hundreds and fires rage across the city as a 40ft tsunami has hit Yokohoma leaving it in ruins. The tides have turned sweeping people out to sea and letting ultra-nationalists like the Black Dragon Society and Black Ocean Society rise from the ashes. Changing Taisho Democracy forever.

Sometimes I think these videos come faster than I can write these; I've just begun playing Hearts of Iron IV as Japan. 1923 1st September In the Japanese Republic, an Earthquake with a Magnitude of 7.9 on the Richter Scale Strikes the Tōkai-dō Region, Caused by a Rupture of a Part of the Convergent Boundary where the Philippine Sea Plate is Subducting the Okhotsk Plate along the Line of the Sagami Trough, Causing a Tsunami up to 3 Feet high which Smashes into the Coastline of Sagami Bay, the Bōsō Peninsula, the Izu Islands, and the Izu Peninsula, Causing many Deaths. Because the Earthquake Occurs at a Time when many Families are Cooking Lunch, many Deaths Occur as a Result of large Fires that Break out Immediately after the Earthquake. Many People Die after their Feet become Stuck in Melting Tarmac. The Earthquake Devastates Yokohama, ~ the most Westernised City in Japan ~ Tokyo, and the Surrounding Chiba, Kanagawa, and Shizuoka Prefectures and Causes Damage throughout the Tōkai-dō Region. The Force of the Earthquake is so Great that in Kamakura, 60km [37 Miles] from the Epicenter, it Moves the Great Buddha Statue, which Weighs 121 Tonnes, almost 60 Centimetres. The Government is Sitting in Ōtsu at the Time the Earthquake Strikes Tokyo and so is never in any Danger. However, American Acting Consul Max David Kirjassoff and his Wife Alice Josephine Ballantine Kirjassoff Die in the Earthquake and the Consulate itself Loses nearly all its Records. Estimated Casualties will Total 142,000 Deaths, Including about 40,000 who go Missing and are Assumed Dead. 1928 In the Russian SFSR, the General-Secretary of The Communist Party, Joseph Stalin, has Finally Seized Power using Army Troops Placed in Moscow. However, he also Understands that without an Efficient Political Programme, his Control over the Country will be lost and the Social Revolutionaries will Plunge Russia into Terror and Chaos. The Temporary Premier, Semyon Timoshenko, a well ~ Known Supporter of Stalin, can Maintain a Similarity of Order, but he has Awful Relations with almost all Factions in the Supreme Soviet and in the Central Committee, and as a Result, Stalin has Decided to Invite Leon Trotsky, the Leader of the “People's Socialist Party of Russia” into the Government and Offer him the Post of Premier. Although Stalin and Trotsky are not on the best of Terms, Stalin Hopes that Trotsky will be Able to Reconstruct the Glory of the Russian Empire. In the Russian SFSR, because of the Civil War in Russia, Millions of Russian Children became Orphans. Premier Lenin did almost nothing to Improve their Lives, but Stalin has another Opinion on the Matter. The Organisation ‘Yunaya Armiya,’ [Leninist Young Communist League] has begun to Militarise the Asylums and Schools of the Children. The coming Generations of the Russian People will get a chance to Improve their Lives and become Builders of a new, Happier Society. 1931 3rd February In the German Empire, the German Economy Finally stops Sinking ~ instead, it Plunges. Fuelled by the Instability Caused by the Collapse of the American Stock Market, Combined with the Fear of changes in the French Commune and the Russian SFSR Causes Investors to Rapidly Withdraw their Assets. As soon as the Berlin Stock Market Opens, Panic Selling Erupts. It takes well into the Night for the Teleprinters to stop Sputtering out the Results of what will become Known as “the Black Monday.” Once the Results have been Analysed, everyone Understands that One of the German Elite’s worst Nightmares has just become Reality. 5th February In the German Empire, German Citizens, Panicked by the Collapse of the Berlin Stock Market, are Rushing into the Banks to try and Withdraw their Assets before they become Worthless. The Banks are not Able to Afford to give out such Sums and many are in Danger of Collapse. It Appears Government Legislation is Urgently needed, and Imperial Chancellor Franz von Papen Orders that the Banks be Closed Temporarily. 6th February In the Kingdom of Poland, there is never any Doubt that the Effects of Black Monday will Spread throughout the German ~ Dominated World, and Poland will not be Immune from this Unprecedented Economic Disaster. Although Economically Isolated from most of Europe, Poland’s Economy still Relies heavily on German Trading. News that the Berlin Stock Market has Collapsed Triggers a Run on the Stock Market in Warsaw and People are already Demanding that the Government take Action. Poland can only Hope to Survive the coming Storm. 29th February In the Russian SFSR, almost Three Weeks ago, the Berlin Stock Exchange Plunged into a bottomless Depth, Throwing Germany’s Economy into an Unprecedented Crisis. Now the Crash’s Shockwaves have reached Russia. German and Austro-Hungarian ~ Owned Companies have Closed down or laid off Workers, the Russian Ruble is losing Value and Resource Exports are Shrinking. 3rd April In the Kingdom of Poland, Angered by the Lack of a Government Response to the Economic Catastrophe, some on the Polish Right Decide it is Time to Act. Adam Doboszyński, an Army Officer with Nationalist Leanings, Decides to Mobilise his Branch of the “Patriots for Saving Poland” Organisation for a March on Warsaw, Intending to Petition the Sejm to Act to Save the Economy. The Marchers, many of whom Turn up Singing the Age ~ old Polish National Anthem, “Poland is Not Yet Lost,” have no Interest in Overthrowing the German Backed Monarchy ~ they Consider themselves to be Loyal Polish Citizens trying to Save Poland from Disloyal Ministers who had Misled the King and Caused the Economy to Collapse. Unfortunately the March does not go as Peacefully as Doboszyński had Planned, and, after an Attack on his Men by Socialists, Doboszyński Decides to Disarm the Local Police. Taking it as a Sign of Serious Problems within his Country, King Friedrich Christian Orders the Army be sent in to Arrest everyone Involved in what he Believes to be a “Treasonous Putsch.” 1936 1st August In Nationalist Germany, the Opening Ceremony of the 1936 Summer Olympics is held in the Capital City, Berlin, Free State of Prussia. As with the Winter Olympics, there is Confusion between the Hitler Salute and the Olympic Salute, with most Countries giving One Salute or the other as they March past Chancellor Hitler on the Reviewing Stand. The British and the Americans are among the Nations that do not Salute at all, giving a Military ~ Style “Eyes Right” instead. The Americans are also the only Nation that do not Dip their Country’s Flag while Passing Hitler, in keeping with the U.S. Custom of only Dipping to the President of The United States.
