Once Zed has changed into certain forms, they can change into them at will or certain triggers.

Is Zed the only one that has multiple personalities and does everyone that has been transformed in Bay City encounter their inner self or aware of it? Where they engage with one another.

As it is in Lift, Most "personality shifts" are more Masks layered overtop of the original personality. A subject can always kind of shrug off the mask if need be. But that doesn't mean that the new personality doesn't effect the original, if they really accept it.
