Sprite art preview: Brandon Wilkins (Patreon)

One of our final major sprite requests to end this year includes Brandon's sprite! (Well, sort of..) For those of you who have been around for nearly over a year and played older builds of the game. You'd know that in a early version of Erika's route from long ago, that we saw Brandon's sprite in some form... Well! We had his sprite done at the time, but we never had more than just a default expression because we didn't know if we'd ever need more than that at the time.

With talks about possibly having the new gui include a portrait window recently, we might be looking to have Brandon's expressions seen throughout the game to help see how he's reacting to conversations and events since we're kind of in his pov for most of the game. ^^" We haven't fully decided on the whole portrait window thing yet, because we want to see how it meshes with the general gui visuals first and see if it's too distracting. (Plus if we do add this portrait window, we're already talking about making sure it's setup in the game settings that players can turn it on/off based on how you feel about it.)

Even without the portrait window in mind, we'd still need Brandon's sprite to have expressions as not to spoil too much. But similar to how Miki's Dream was, where we took the role of Miki. We'll have some moments in the game where we aren't in Brandon's shoes and will end up seeing him, so it makes sense to give him expressions like other sprites.

When trying to figure out how to go about his expressions, I knew a couple things... First off, being the protag of the story would mean his expressions need to cover a good range and while we don't have more expressions for him than other main characters. I still made sure to ensure his emotions with already existing dialogue would fit his character.

Another thing I knew was important was to really think about Brandon's traits, what makes him who he is personality wise. Along with that, I wanted to have the expressions play off of being somewhat similar to Erika since they're siblings naturally. I think if you were to compare the expression sheets for Erika and Brandon side by side, you'll sort of see the connection, but also still keeping the two separate enough and unique to what makes them who they are.

Brandon is very interested in computers and technology as a whole, as he would spend much of his time furthering his skills and knowledge. This would help lead him later to wishing to pursue a career in computer science.

While attending his old college for two years, he'd end up befriending Nathan and Joey as the guys shared similar interests. They'd often hang out in their free time playing video games or discussing the latest anime series, etc.

Life at their current college seemed dull and unexciting to the guys, but it didn't help that they were all still virgins and struggled with the girls on campus. Fate seemed to have something in store for the guys as Brandon was curious about transferring schools and while browsing around online he came across one, Kaikaku Academy.

Everything seemed perfect, besides it being an all-girls private college, but he couldn't help but fantasize what it'd be like to attend. But after he snaps back to reality, he's about to close out of the webpage when he notices a mini popup window that wasn't originally there, asking for him to enroll.

He didn't think much of it, but what did he have to lose? He casually tossed his information down, along with his two buddies and life went on. That is until fate would lean in their favor... Oddly enough, they'd receive their letters of acceptance and it'd lead the guys on a unforgettable path to Kaikaku Academy.
