It should be noted, based on what I've find, the use of a certain O word used in the Japanese version is now considered a slur that could be homophobic or transphobic, based on the context. So based on how it's used in the episode, it kinda makes the writers look horrible since rather than putting down an actual name for the character, they refers to them by a word that can be the Japanese equivalent of the F word or the T word. Not helped by the camp voice they character is given in the dub, which indicates their existence is something to laugh at. It's doesn't come across as progressive as you originally said. However, I could be wrong. For this comment, I'm basing by info on a much more recent video, Bennett the Sage's review of "Fight!! Spirit of the Sword".

Yeah, I've since heard that too. Once I get to the YouTube re edit of this, I'll change it up to reflect it. It was still progressive to portray a camp man in ANY positive, non threatening capacity but everything else... not so much
