Time for the usual monthly marathon, with a bit of a twist! For now though, here is a perfectly normal episode with shuckle.

"James and Meowth can generate the same amount of power as a power plant." Well of course, Suede, have you seen James's gams?

Verdant Range

Saying "pokedex entries seen here" indicates that that those should appear on screen.

I'm with Suede on this one; at least for the first episode being reviewed. There are a few lines they kinda crossed with this, not the least of which being what can be best described as a tutorial for Pokemon hentai. I love Shuckle (though thankfully not in that way), but when that happens, you are so far past that line y'all need a PokeNav to find your way back!

first episode: this sadly is the possible origin of/almost justifies the existence of, pokephilia trainers. second episode: so it operates by evangelion logic?

In Gold/Silver/Crystal, if you give your Shuckle a Berry and wait, you get Berry Juice! (And Rare Candy, if you wait long enough.) I believe the Berry Juice mechanic carried on for a bit, but the Rare Candy one did not - so, technically, the first episode was teaching a game mechanic. Very technically.

Funny enough, I distinctly remember the Robo-Mech Wobbafet and how Ash defeated it, but I completely forgot about everything else that occured in that episode. Btw, at 7:33 you say "...as you can see in these pokedex entries", but forgot to actually display said entries at any point. Also, as others have mentioned, Shuckle's berry juice was actually a game mechanic too!

doesn’t the special shuckle appear around badge 6 in game? also I could be wrong, but I could have sworn I heard the same voice later on in the entei episode.

That, and if this is true, we may finally know what a Rare Candy tastes like. It tastes like an aphrodisiac, no wonder you can technically evolve em this way!

The Alex Davis contest thing probably is true, however given that it was in the early 2000's any online record of such a contest has probably long been scrubbed from the interwebs to the point where even a Professor of Googlefu wouldn't be able to find it. You'd likely have to search for ancient issues of popular UK children's magazines of the time to have any hope of finding details about the contest. EDIT: I found something: https://forums.bulbagarden.net/index.php?threads/can-anyone-tell-me-what-episode-this-is-from.55340/#post-2604067 That is a post purported to be from Alex Davis himself claiming he won the contest from M&S (presumably Marks and Spencer) and was flown to New York to do the voice. Other users asked him follow-up questions but he never came back to the forums. I'm looking for details of the actual contest now but I'm not that hopeful on finding anything. I tried poking around the Marks & Spencer website on the Wayback Machine but got nowhere, so yeah, any records of such a competition are probably lost to time or in Alex's private collection assuming he kept his notice of winning, tickets to New York and all that.

Also, the episodes may not have been that good, but they made for some pretty funny reviews.

The only evidence I have seen that points to there being a contest always links back to that thread. The fact that they only commented once, makes me question the authenticity of it. Especially since other British fans said they don't recall there ever being such a contest at Marks and Spencer. What further throws this in question would be why would 4Kids hold a contest of this caliber exclusively for the UK? If it was something as amazing as being a voice actor on the show you would think they would include the US in this contest. Everywhere I see says that Kayzie Rogers did the voice. It could be she just did a particularly weird voice for the character. My only other theory would be that maybe an executive at 4Kids who had a lot of pull got their kid to be on the show cause they were a huge fan or something. But that is purely speculative.

I have to agree with Megatron on this. Competitions in kids magazines at the time were REALLY common, and writing about them on the internet? Very uncommon. People writing about it after the fact? Write what? Sending out a post card to some PO box? That if you subscribed to a magazine, you had the chance to win something? The pize could have changed or vague in the annoucnement of the sweepstakes. Thats not too uncommon. Kinda like the Chris Houlihan room. If everything about that room is true, the compeition was to have your name appear in an upcomming unspecified game for the NES... And it ended up being a Link to the Past, in a secret room error handeling room. That said... Hearing his voice in this I litterally said "Oh isn't that the kid who won the competition?". I feel like its something I very briefly saw in one of those Pokemon/Cartoon/Anime magazines that were around in the era. A simple blurb like "Pokemon fan Alex Davis won a sweepstakes and is voicing a character in an upcomming episode". or something like that.

TV Tropes had an interesting theory towards Gary's personality change in Johto and it ties back to early builds of Gold and SIlver "Gary's sudden personality change in Johto is lifted from earlier versions of Gold and Silver's script. In an earlier version of the game, Blue is a much more humble person who mentions that Red knocked him down a peg. He now works as an assistant to his grandfather Professor Oak. In the final game, Blue still keeps his cocky spark and he works as the Viridian gym leader. Even after the script for the games changed, the anime's script didn't. As a result, Blue and Gary are very different in terms of character and occupation."

Shuckle turning Berries into juice is not just canon in the games via the Pokédex: (At least according to Bulbapedia), "In Generation II, the first Shuckle holding a Berry in the player's party has a 1/16 chance to turn it into a Berry Juice after each battle." That's such a specific thing... Bummer that it is only in Gen II 3:
