You said this was a triple feature, but there was only one episode reviewed? Cinderquil was as cute as I remember him being, happily

Why did they change names? It could be a matter of them getting a script and not listening to the episode, then it would be a matter of mistranslation.

Eh, given the eventual Silver representation we got in the anime with Paul, I'm good with how he was used in the anime. Wasting him on a one-off episode that's only notable for Ash catching something would have done him a disservice.

I get the feeling that Team Rocket is something the animators and team really love using and constantly cramming in and are really only allowed about one or two episodes per "season" to really have a specific focus on thus a lot of episodes constantly give them more attention and focus then they really need and this is a good example. The idea of trying to capture a Pokemon from someone else who is such a jerk about it he'll even try fighting Ash for it after he caught it actually is something new we haven't seen in other capture episodes and spending more time against Kochi would of shown off the rivalrly better and even given more time for Cyndaquill to show off more of it's personality. But yeah I get a feeling that the staff just love TR too much that when the very idea of the "let's show them get jobs to buy up for a mech" they were too focused on wanting to use that ASAP and jam it in a story even when they could be very downplayed. Or you know not at all *sighs* God damn it I hate how it took till generation 5 for the staff to realize they don't need TR in EVERY episode and we have so many ones like this where they feel overly forced in. That said the idea at least was solid and at least they do a good job establishing Cyndaquill's weakness we'll find out in later episodes here.

I like the Toasty joke. I think, you should also keep in mind, that since Pokemon are sentient and allow themselves to be caught, then Cyndaquil's reaction is like a "No, means No" moment. Since, Cyndaquil is so quick on its feet, Ash should have nicknamed it "Hurry"

Yeah, Team Rocket really shouldn't appear in episodes sometimes. Shame the staff took until the freaking Black and White season to finally realize this.

I know this is Pokemon and Ash we're talking about but it would've been a nice change of pace when Jerkface challenged him to a battle if Ash just said, "Why? All you've done is run your mouth and cheat while I caught Cyndaquill fair and square. What do I have to prove to you?"
