Verdant Range

The part where Suede normally says "Synopsis" is oddly quiet.

Cross-Reset

Honestly I've always had issues with this episode and stuff like this, as it makes guys like Blaine, Drake and Falkner look worse than they should be.

I actually missed this episode completely when it it was broadcast. :D I didn't even know that Ash lost Charizard until the thrid movie... and then I was very confused!

Neo Ultra Mike

This is an episode as a kid I remember the first time watching it... only coming in half way through and seeing Charizard in the Charizsefic valley challenging other Charizards and Ash actually already humblered at his Charizard not being able to take on the top fighters and then at the very end confused seeing Ash tell Charizard off so he'll want to stay and figuring "oh this will be explained more in the next episode" and yeah it wasn't and then figuring "okay this will make sense when I see the whole thing" which yeah I eventually did and it did make more sense but... I'm 100% with Suede on this one; it's one of those episodes that has the potential to be really great as the Charisific valley is an awesome idea, Liza is a really cool character design and if you are going to do a "Ash leaves Charizard behind" episode then this is the perfect way to do it; Charizard who was all about flexing strength realizing how compared to a lot of other tough Charizards actually is at the bottom scale and wanting to train up more extensively which he can't do on Ash's team but Ash actually still using him the guy constantly showing up again and again in various battles throughout the series so not like he was ever just forgotten. So you think this would be this big deal and have this big impact but... yeah just playing it so goofily doesn't work. Like "Bye Bye Butterfree" was goofy at first seeing Butterfree's attempts to get the female Butterfree but it eventually worked it's way into more serious stuff and there's maybe a moment or two of that here but not only that really lands. Plus that whole opening feels like very poor meta commentary especially since even in the last episode Charizard still struggled with the tank and even in the badge with Falkner fish Charizard still was put through a real fight against his Pidgeot so what's the whole OP argument really about? *groans* Oh yeah because they clearly want excuses to slowly start getting rid of Ash's old team for his new Johto one before they realized at the start of every region "oh yeah I'll just totally get rid of my old team except Pikachu" is a "better" starting tactic then this. Which is so stupid honestly but eh get to that more when it comes up. So yeah this one has moments and a really solid idea but I get it as one you want to hold up as this big acheivement but really can't which is a shame as the potential's there but it needed to cool down in the water and think things through... except you know coming back remembering it's continuity and playing up a more serious atmosphere and yeah not doing a stupid "Ash pretends he doesn't want Charizard so he'll stay instead of just saying goodbye to him like a normal trainer would" ending. Seriously was that payback or something for how Charizard treated him at first or something cause that's the only way that'd make sense... okay yeah that's what I'm going with screw you writers if you wanted otherwise should of wrote something better then.

Eyewarp

I just realized something. Charizard's original trainer abandoned him because he thought he was too weak, didn't he? And now Ash is telling him he's too weak and abandoning him. GOD what a dick move.

Hold on, what? It actually ENDS on the "I don't like you anymore" shit? On top of being dumb, that's nedlessly bleak.
