Well, the first of the movies is finally out, free of all the cringe and discomfort of the earlier reviews! I'm glad I was finally able to get the ball rolling with this, I know you guys have been waiting so long since I first put out that stretch goal, but "Reliable If Tardy" seems to be the Code Of Suede and though I wish it weren't the case and I'll work on being more punctual. I guess it could be worse! I can't wait to get the others done so I can finally move on to the newer movies in a timely fashion.

Getting back on subject though, even though I'm pretty pleased with what I put out, there's been some mixed reception to Movie 1. This is to be expected, now that I think about it. Back in the day I put up a poll as to whether or not to do it in the old movie style or in the journey style and it was pretty much split down the middle. So after several rewrites I tried to pull off both at once and unfortunately ended up disappointing some people on both sides! I honestly don't mind either one, but it was exhausting trying to juggle the formula and decide what to keep. So I'll let you guys put in your two cents and we'll see if we can make it better for 2000.

So now that you've all seen the review and can get a proper feel for the style, which direction should go in for the next movie review?

Yu-Gi-Oh Ragnarok

I do kind of miss the plot of the old style, but I don't mind that it's gone. It just added an extra layer to the reviews that isn't needed anymore.

I think it might help the structure a little bit if you did your normal 'synopsis/thoughts/trivia' format, as it helps keep the pace moving along well and stops you getting bogged down in details a bit too much when you're trying to recap the plot. The actual content of the episode is fine (and I wouldn't be against keeping it the same if that's what you want), I just think it might be easier on you to format the movies as just extra long TV episodes and keep the continuity of how your episodes are structured across the board.

I loved the old movie reviews (flaws and all) especially the framing device about the MMO, but most of the people watching now are probably more familiar with Journey and the dialogue sounds a little stilted when trying to blend the two. Keep Linkara if you can though, he's always great. He's a prince for coming back to help out again.

For me it's not even a style thing per se. I think having some of the older flair while attempting to present it more akin to how you do reviews nowadays is fine, but I think the jokes either need to be timed better or rewritten to work better with the faster style.

for me, all I really want is to see a framing device, either the one from the old reviews or another one. I like the idea of the movie review being different from any regular episode review, of standing out in some way.

I would keep the Journey way of doing it but as other people said, If possible keep Linkara in with the movies as it adds to it and makes the movies a bit more special. I really liked the redux of the first movie review.

Though I will miss the framing device of the old videos, I thought this was a great hybrid of the two formats. It makes the movie reviews a little more special in my opinion, like more of an event and not just another Journey episode. And you should absolutely keep Linkara, when you two collaborate, I can always count on some top tier entertainment.

I feel indifferent. I really, really enjoyed the old movie reviews. But I do get why you're doing them again. What I was hoping though is that when you get to movie 5 whenever, you'd do something like the old style. I will say: my only complaint with the new movie 1 review is it felt a bit rushed. You are allowed to have a second of silence or drag out just a little with comedy.

I am happy that you came back to the movie reviews. Though...I hate to be negative but it does feel like the fast pace of it diminishes it. A lot of it feels like it's being gone over without proper emphasis. Part of that might be because I remembered it being more ceremonial the first time, but it still seems too breezy, and it does make sense that a full movie review would need more emphasis placed on it. I also wonder if part of that is because the synopsis/thoughts/trivia break down works less well for longer stories, since it necessitates pushing much of what you have to say about it to the back. I do feel bad about this being the first I've commented, my impression of what you put out is largely overwhelmingly positive. And there's obviously a lot of difficult constraints you're dealing with; having to stick to short clips, edit around the somewhat limited supply of audio from the first review, and doing this all while putting out other episodes weekly. I'm not sure what the ideal solution is. Still, even if I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped, there were several neat parts to it. And whatever you decide to try in the future I wish you the best of luck, your weekly reviews remain consistently entertaining.

I'd stick to the newer style as that feels more like your comfort zone. And the MMO framing device always felt kind of contrived. Though I would agree that the pacing shoud probably be a little slower

I'm fine without the framing device, though if he does use it again, I would suggest a different approach. Like maybe Arceus is judging them to determine their worth as Pokemon fans

I'm of the opinion to go full journey. I liked the format of your last review but I'm more curious to see what you'd do with Journey format for a movie.
