You are floating through a long, dark tunnel, towards a bright, warm light into Part I of our Afterlife episode. Who better to finally answer the question of where we go when we die than Brad and Jake? We take you on an out of body experience to the Division of Perceptual Studies at the University of Virginia’s medical school, where we meet our guides, professors of psychiatry and neurobehavioral sciences Jim Tucker M.D. and Bruce Greyson M.D. Together, they’ve amassed around 8000 case studies in their respective fields of near-death experiences and children who claim to remember past lives (aka reincarnation). We’ll not only delve into the science and history of the phenomena but take you through the wild personal stories of the experiencers. This will prime you for next week’s Part II, where we’ll drag you to the depths of Hell, and through the many dimensions of Quantum Immortality.

Ol' Firebones

I just got around to listening to this episode, and I'd like to discuss it, but I'm afraid I'm going to come across as an asshole. Is anyone still seeing this? And can you accept that I'm approaching this in good faith?

Is anyone following “Couture to the Max” on insta? He’s a child prodigy fashion designer who says he was Gucci in a past life 🥹 He mentioned a few interesting details that seem to line up. In any case, the kid’s work is really good. He just made a commissioned coat for Sharon Stone 🙌🏻

All of these children have been coached. This is just so dumb

"As a child, little Billy would crash his plane into the dining room table (like, literally, all kids) but my husband and I had a massively overblown reaction to it, and he learned it gave him a dopamine rush every time he brought it up. So he kept bringing it up, which lead my husband and I to watching tons of WWII documentaries with him, and making sure to point everything out to him to ask if he remembered it... and it's inexplicable for child's brain that has tons of energy and nothing so grand to spend it on than farming domamine hits from his parents. He's thirty now and shoots krokodil in our garage, but we're just letting him build his potential before he does something special... " I had such high hopes for this show, and there are enough good parts to keep me going, but it's pretty lazy overall. As Brad is the variable, and he's the one who brought the clearly lying and retarded pig, Lonnie Zamora... I'm guessing Brad is impressed by cuticles and thinks they're an alien plot, and Jake went along because he's just a really good guy. I can tell this would have been leaps and bounds better without the albatross of Brad hanging around its neck. I'm a total skeptic, but I still have fun in this realm so long I keep in mind that everything is true while I listen - it's suspension of disbelief for a fictional story. What Brad doesn't understand, apparently, is that even a lie has to be internally consistent, so when Brad brings up stories that can be debunked just with the skewed version he's presenting, that's not bad storytelling. That's pathetic pandering to the dumbest audience, and is Brad telling us what kind of audience he is. It means that Brad has zero internal gauge for how good a story is (which is directly tied to the part that gauges lying), which is the only thing that matters - how well does it hold up on first telling. Facts have no power here, because it's all fantasy - which makes it infuriating to find out that Brad will fall for stories that can be internally debunked because he doesn't even know how to tell a bad story in a way to hide the warts. Brad just points out all the obvious bullshit and declares it "more proof". I really hope Jake does another season, but solo this time. I'd even love Julien to co-host because he at least knows what make a good story. I'm not knocking him, just pointing out that a cynic is usually the worst choice, but Julien is a real person with a real brain and not a conspiracy remora who just feeds on the detritus left behind. How long until Brad is telling us to do our own research and giving affiliate links for Duck Duck Go? I can see what the next two episodes are, so I think I'm done for now.
