In past QAA cryptid episodes, we typically find a creature thought to be real, but then is later debunked by modern science.  For this week’s Spectral Voyager, we thought it would be interesting to do the opposite:  Start with a creature once believed to be a myth, until scientists were able to actually prove its existence.  The Giant Squid has fascinated Jake since he was a young boy, and he, Brad, and Julian will pour through the animal’s legendary sightings dating all the way back to the fifteen hundreds.  Follow us along on the nearly five-hundred-year journey to prove the existence of one of the greatest mysteries the ocean has to offer us.  We’ll also be exploring the Mokele-Mbembe in Brad’s “Cryptid Corner” – a potentially prehistoric reptile that might very well haunt Lake Tele, deep in the jungles of Africa.

1:04:00: Sometimes the cryptid is the friends we made along the way

The cryptozoology sizzle reel was really fascinating. I love the idea of the perfect life and people that have found that balance of sustaining themselves by doing something that they’re 100% passionate about. In a way, they’ve done it and people that have devoted their life to chasing after a cryptid because of a single chance encounter feels like an incredible concept for a documentary and I hope you eventually continue on with the idea or project in some way. I also like the idea of the chapters, explain to me roughly what the monster is and then introduce me to the amazing soul who loves it.

i have to admit this is the first spectral voyager episode i've listened to, over 2 months late. I don't know why i thought anything put out under the QAA seal of quality wouldn't be right up my alley, but i gave SV a swerve up until today. Well this is a superb podcast episode and now i've got the rest of spectral voyager to listen to! This was laugh-out-loud-at-work funny, fascinating and moving.
