Time Travel.  We’ve all fantasized about what could be possible if we possessed the ability to travel backwards or forwards through time; perhaps to see your favorite band in some small smokey venue before they were famous, or to prevent a horrible tragedy from taking place.  But what if you stumbled upon time travel completely by accident?  Where would you go?  What would you do?  This week, Jake, Brad, and Julian dive into the wondrous case of Mike “Mad Man” Marcum, a Coast to Coast AM caller who claimed to have built a Time Machine on his back porch in 1995.  We’ll follow Mike from his humble beginnings working in a cardboard box factory all the way through his rise to fame as one of Art Bell’s most memorable callers.  And of course, try to answer the most pertinent question of all: Did the madman actually do it?

Maybe I'm a skeptic, but I feel like he chickened out at the last moment in 1998 and didn't jump into the electric deathtrap, and to save face he came up with that story of losing two years and amnesia, but he has the decency not to make a grift out of it, he simply wanted to move past it and provide a sufficiently satisfying story to the thousands of people following his story that ties up all the loose ends.

This is the greatest kooky story I've ever God damn heard. Just want to add that rotating magnetic fields are a common theory about UFO propulsion

Well this is an all-time classic episode. I loved it. I also think I have found Mad Man and believe we live in the same city. Maybe I'll reach out and let him know Jake just paid tribute to his efforts.

Missed this episode when it first came out but so glad I just listened. Jake it is not said enough that your heart and ability to emotionally connect with the stories you tell is such an important part of this show. Thank you for always being so open and honest when you are struck by the things you are studying and analyzing. I often have similar reactions to you and I so appreciate your perspective. Your joy and your sincere care for people are a huge reason I listen. Thanks for being awesome, and thanks for that incredible laugh. This episode is amazing and truly one of the best of all. Well done.
