A violent hatred of women. Multi-level marketing. Elaborate ban evasion. These are the tip of the iceberg for perhaps the most visible masculinity influencer of our age: Andrew Tate. We explore the path of “Cobratate” AKA “Top G” and the recent allegations of — according to Romanian authorities — “human trafficking, rape and organized crime”.

I was speaking to my teen boys this morning about this monster and one of them said: 'have you actually listened to him?, People make him to be bad and yes, he says some bad things but he is funny' I am scared now and don't want to make it worse. I'm madly googling 'how to talk to your teenage boy about AT'!!!

foxy

His debate with Hasan is fantastic to watch because it really breaks down that AT is just making everything he says up. Hasan annoys me sometimes but it was a great throwdown and AT got really frustrated to the point he left to take a break. AT is such a weak fragile man when put under real pressure by intelligent people who don't care about his money. Maybe ask them what it is he does that's funny? You might be able to figure out where that comes from. Otherwise, well. I'm not sure there's a lot that can be done, since you're the one he tells them to listen to the least, basically. I'm genuinely sorry to hear this. This is probably just gamergate anti-feminism of the 2020s, tbh (his main groupies are even fortnite pros!!). They may have to grow out of it themselves when they find out what real life is like

The advice i find is along these lines: https://www.standard.co.uk/insider/talk-children-andrew-tate-misogyny-online-safety-b1053749.html

He must be a Trekkie to hate Star Wars so much. Fucks sake man, that's two things we have in common. I am also from Luton and am a massive Trek nerd. He sounds like a playground simpleton during his bizarre rants and is probably employing his lame over the top masculine persona in a poor attempt to hide his love of collecting Star Trek action figures, toy phasers / tricorders, starship models and replica uniforms. Seriously though, this dude is all kinds of fucked up. Interesting that him being "funny" is a selling point for some of his [most likely younger] fans - this is also what seems to attract a lot of people to Boris Johnson and we all know what kind of person he is under the guise of his bungling Englishman persona.

Interested Third Party

I feel like every boy had an Andrew Tate in their life. He was king shit at lunchtime because everyone was a little afraid of him and he was cruel, which was the most valuable trait to have in secondary school. You thought he was bullshitting but you didn't know, you were 14! Maybe he was a black belt in judo. Maybe he did pick up two 10/10s at the club on the weekend and bang them in the back of a limo. He'd do that exact thing where he would put on a voice to mock someone, except it's not an impression of the person at all, it's just the 'pussy' voice. Then you got to about 16 and you all had the collective realisation of oh, we actually don't have to hang out with this guy do we? We can go off and do our own thing. And he rapidly diminished into this very pathetic figure. The last time you probably saw him is when you went back home for whatever reason and there he was at the pub, still bragging about how much money he's making and the birds he's shagging. In the same small town. And you think 'damn man, I used to be scared of you'. This is all a roundabout way of saying Annie nailed it, Tate is a guy who stopped developing in puberty. It's not really surprising he has such an influence on 14 year olds, he IS a 14 year old. Small dick energy indeed.

I’m truly going to miss this series

One thing you can do is ask your teen boys how he is funny. Like legitimately have them explain the 'humor' to you. Keep pushing until you get to the core reason they think he's funny and when that reason is enivitbly "he makes people mad" or "he makes fun of women" keep going. Ask why those two things are funny too. I've found that with my relatives this type of questioning can really shake their faith in figures they find funny because having to look at the target of their "humor' in the eye while explaining "yeah I like this because it hurts you" is a daunting task for budding young tough guys.

He seems nice. 😳

I would play it cool too, you dont wanna push him further down the rabbit hole if hes prone to contrarianism. So just present the hasan debate (if you liked it) as a "hey i saw this with the guy you were talking about" and just play it chill with a "theres no right way to be a good man, but this guy seems much more on the right track than tate". i'd also go heavy on pointing out how clearly unhappy tate looks + explain MLM schemes to him as thats where lots of the content your son would have seen came from - ie he would have seen videos by hustlers univeristy 'students' trying to recruit. Explain that they were trying to manipulate him and he's smarter than falling for that. idk sorry just trying to think of what would have worked on me as a young guy! good luck either way and it seems youre the right kind of mother to be able to put your kid back on the right track :)

Lol. "Baby face" that is so true!

Minor point but it always irks me whenever Tate says that recovering after hardship is what masculinity is all about, when that's something everyone needs to learn to do if they want the best life possible.

Douglas De Young

This guy is a extraordinary asshole among extraordinary assholes.

Wow I clenched my jaw so hard this ep I think all of my teeth broke...this guy is cooked

"Lex Luthor looking motherfucker". lol.

Maybe watch the Bruce Rivers clips on Tate with him. Bruce breaks down all of Tates self snitching

Shivvy

I greatly prefer bubble water to flat and now I’m deeply upset about it :/

David McCurdy

wow, while I feel like you have been perhaps too harsh on some of the people in earlier episodes that have a glimer of a point but have allowed it to become twisted in their own heads this guy seems to have no redeeming features! Some people are the victims of toxic masculinity but this guy embraces it to a horrifying level of small d energy. Imagine not feeling secure in your own home unless you have a weapon to hand at all times ...

Annie’s Tate impression gives me life 🙏😭
