We cover Jim Watkins’ deposition in front of the January 6th committee and the ongoing debates around the so-called Twitter Files. To help us with the latter we're joined by Charlie Warzel, a staff writer for the Atlantic who’s been studying these shambolic developments, including private exchanges Musk has been holding with a motley crew of rich weirdos.

Thanks for supporting us on patreon!

My mom was telling me with rapturous glee about McCarthy's tumultuous election to the speakership. For one night, the republican party was almost as bad at organizing consensus as the democrats have been for the last forty years. Democrats celebrating the election of a radical republican to the speakership after losing the house and almost losing the senate, after an abysmal two years of losing votes while controlling both houses... I'm with Julian on divesting from the dems

Based on Jake’s New Year’s resolutions , we are basically the same person. 😂 If you actually manage to stop saying you’re sorry all the time, please let me know your secret.

Musk is just a red-pilled edgelord, (not a very smart one) and he bought Twitter for attention and to promote right-wing extremism. It was never about money.

He’s a billionaire who’s main source of income is both rich faux-environmentalists and the military-industrial complex. It’s always about money.

How do smart guys like your guest end up with a publication like The Atlantic? Guess if you want to get paid, you need to work for idiots.

I didn’t say boo. I was saying "Boo-urns

Perhaps. But no one sees Twitter at 44B as a "shrewd investment", even Musk's most ardent fanboys. Like Trump, Musk wants to be famous and have celebs and other people think he's edgy, funny and cool. That is why Musk does stuff like host SNL and show up on stage with Chappelle. Musk could have, say, bought a pro sports team for a lot less than paid for Twitter. But that wouldn't give him "reach" the way this does. And so far, Twitter is not helping his bottom line.

It's about both. Both of his "serious" companies have enormous investments in Texas, and Gov. Greg Abbott is one of the leading "Trumpism without Trump" figures in the GOP right now. Playing to the chuds also bolsters his personal cult and brand, which are the sole thing keeping Tesla afloat right now, in addition to feeding his unquenchable thirst to have people call him Funny and Cool.

To learn more about each of your lives is so crazy. Travis has a child who is graduating HS!

“i’m gonna be hopefully mean more” — y’all was it last year or the year before when Julian resolved to be nicer… we’ve swung completely the other way, and I respect that.

it's actually Travis, he is just embarrassed
