A political chameleon now considered a rising star of the GOP was raised within a cult run by a surfer who broke away from the Hare Krishnas to focus more on himself as the conduit of God on earth — and to attack homosexual rights. Our guest writer is Mike Prysner (Empire Files, Eyes Left Podcast) who helps us explore Tulsi Gabbard and her family's intimate involvement with the Science of Identity cult.

Holy crap. I KNEW she was weird, but didn't know specifics. Any tie in to Yellow Deli?

Brian Long

This is wild.

This episode is how I learned that the hippy-dippy grocery store I got vegetarian food from when I lived in Honolulu was run by a right-wing cult.

Lyndsay Thompson

I can’t believe we didn’t know about this and none of her opponents put it out there.

I thought he was saying "Sith" instead of "SIF." If the shoe fits...

Matt

It’s interesting that they’re a psycho hippie cult but extremely right wing. Meanwhile wasn’t the big right wing fear of hippies in the ‘60s that they would become weird cult psycho Commies? Turns out they’re fine with the cult psycho shit so long as the cult is insanely right wing.

I get a lot of shit in leftist circles for saying new-age mysticism is inherently reactionary, but I get the feeling it's just gonna keep becoming more obvious as far-right shit escalates.

I thought he was saying "syph," as in syphilis, until I realized it was an acronym for the group's name. Given some of the gross practices that group was into, I'd guess that both those shoes fit.

Every word in this episode was more fucked than the last

I think the Jake doth protest too much. As if he hasn’t tried to solicit some foot worship.

I mean, when I was a kid, I believed in everything: ESP, ghosts and demons, UFOs, bigfoot, you name it. But I was a kid growung up in the 70s (and I was a child/teen). How can so many adults believe in reptilian conspiracies? A lack of the teaching of proper critical thinking skills?

Grindizer

Ahhhh! That was Mike from the empire files. I understand now how this was so awesome 👍🏽

hhhhhm

When I briefly thought "what if it's true?" when I was younger about the reptilian conspiracy theory, the only things that seemed to give it any weight at all were that I'd heard of it. Plus there were shitty powerful people in the world. It didn't last long but even still I wish someone had spoken to me to say you know, capitalism is more than enough to explain the problems. We don't need conspiracy theories to explain it. Capitalism is enough.

Gobsmacked.....that was amazing, can't wait to listen to the second part.

Why am I learning about this on this stupid show? I watched this woman get treated like a serious candidate on the debate stage.
