Paul McCartney is dead. Or so believe a group of people who have been developing the idea since the late 60s. We explore how The Beatles’ rise to fame as a pop band was accompanied by conspiracy theories. Includes segments of an interview Annie conducted with Dr. Richard Mills at St. Mary’s University, London, an expert on The Beatles and author of 'The Beatles: Sex, Death and Progressive Nostalgia'.

I remember learning about this from a classmate in 7th grade. It turned out that I had an original "Butcher Album" cover from the US only release, "Yesterday and Today". This first cover featured the Beatles posing in butcher smocks covered in cuts of meat and dismembered baby dolls. 750,000 copies were recalled and replaced with a tame pic of the boys standing and sitting around a steamer trunk with Paul kind of in the trunk. The meats and dolls were supposed to be Paul after the accident and the trunk in the second pic represented his coffin. Even 11 year olds thought this was a bunch of shit.

Ngl this seemed like a pretty lazy episode. Many of the audio clips were either unnecessarily long or particularly poor quality. Edit: On second thought, the episode was fine. I probably took a lot of work to find these older clips.

As a UK listener, Annie's episodes always make me extra happy. Keep the occasional British conspiracies coming please!

This is the hardest working podcast team in the game! Be nice.

Matt

I was hoping this was about PJW.

Some minor debunking: the patch on Paul’s sleeve, pictured on the cover of “Sgt Pepper,” doesn’t say “OPD.” It says “OPP,” which stands for Ontario Provincial Police. And the medal he’s wearing is the MBE that the British government had awarded him the year before.

So I went against Annie’s wishes and played the pod backwards and it says ‘Barry Gibb came fourth in a Barry Gibb lookalike contest’ over and over…

Matt

More the “dead” part than anything else. I listened to that one already.

Please cover the Publius Enigma, a Pink Floyd conspiracy theory "baked" by fans on the internet of the late '90s that included the involvement of a Christian cult.

I am now only subscribed for Jake's Beatles impersonation and demand to hear it in every episode. Honestly it's just Michael Caine.

Recently I’ve been listening to Sirius XM and hearing a lot of Paul McCartney songs and Beatles songs mentioned in this episode - I know it’s just Frequency illusion/bias but I’m starting to think Annie controls the airwaves

Literally every british voice he did was Michael Caine. (But that's a damn good michael caine impression!)

I would like to propose Jake do all further episodes in his Beatles voice. That was fantastic and had me rolling.
