When I first heard that Q was now using Tor I didn't think it was that strange considering that Ron is in America these days and could therefore be traced without using some form of VPN so it made it more obvious that it was him ...

I haven't been in the "business" for a while now, so things could very well be quite different these days, but there seems to be a problem with the "whitelisted" claim. My understanding is that, for the whitelisting to work on a chan board (due to lack of an actual login), Q would have to consistently post from the same IP address, and the Watkinses would have to know what it is to enable Q to be recognised for whitelisting. If I'm wrong, please let me know. This is the only way I could think to make it work since even the site wouldn't know Q's tripcode due to the salted hash. The Watkinses would have no way of knowing what "password" generated what tripcode to maybe allow that to trigger recognition and using the old salt. I cannot figure out a way this works that isn't explained by the Watkinses either being Q, or at least knowing who Q is... Unless Q was granted administratior access by them (allowing Q to manually changing post IDs and tripcodes) without knowing who Q is or anything about them... But then Q's posts would be tagged as coming from an admin. Right?

They could do it by continuing to generate the old tripcode for each new post and, whenever that "legacy" tripcode matches a tripcode on a certain whitelist, allow that as a valid tripcode for the post (bypassing the new salt completely). If Q's tripcode were on that whitelist, Q could continue to post with the old password. I don't think this is very likely but it's logically possible.
