It was a father-son bonding trip gone horribly wrong. Naruto and his now-grown son Boruto had decided to take a trip since the latter had achieved his dream of becoming a shinobi. One of them had the idea to sail to a remote island, but when a storm suddenly blew in that their small ship had no chance of withstanding, they found themselves shipwrecked.

“Ugh,” Naruto groaned, pushing himself up from the sand of the beach. “Wow, that storm hit us hard, Are you ok?” He looked to Boruto, who was similarly shaken.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” he said seriously, dusting himself off, “but where are we? If we navigated right, there shouldn’t be an island here.”

“We’re lucky there was one though,” Naruto said, rubbing the back of his head and smiling, “We’d be stuck in the middle of the ocean if it wasn’t.”

“Sure…” Boruto replied, looking around suspiciously. He was still skeptical about their luck in finding such a place.

The pair gathered what they could from their destroyed boat and traveled inland, hoping to find a place to set up camp for the evening. They were lucky enough to come across a pool fed by a waterfall somewhere within the trees. There was something wrong with this place though. The entire way there they saw multiple strange sights that somewhat shocked them. Flowers with large petals that were almost clothlike, vines that they originally thought to be snakes because of the way they moved, other plants that let out consistent puffs of white, slightly sweet-smelling powder.

Even the pool they came across was strange: instead of clear water, slightly thick cloudy liquid poured down from the cliff above.

“What is this place?” Boruto asked, approaching the pond, “Surely you as Hokage would know?”

The older of the two shook his head, just as confused as his son. “Actually no I don’t, this whole place is a mystery to me too.” he said, kneeling down to take a sip of the strange cloudy liquid.

Boruto had a sudden idea and activated his Jōgan and the entire island lit up in his perception, alerting him that energy was flowing through every inch of the island around them. It was like the land itself had been contaminated by a Jutsu of some kind.

“Dad, wait!” he called, attempting to stop his father from sipping up the liquid, only to see it was too late. Naruto sucked up the handful of liquid and sat back with a satisfied gasp.

Boruto relayed his discovery to his father who looked slightly concerned for a moment before laughing the whole thing off. “I’m sure it’s nothing,” he said calmly, “Here have a drink of this. it’s kind of like milk but sweeter.”

Boruto declined, eyeing the liquid warily before moving to set up something to sleep on for the night. His father however enjoyed the strange swimming sensation in his head that the liquid provided along with the strange whistling of the wind above him. It faintly sounded like calming music and made him want to relax and return to a simpler time.
