Good Morning From Cairo

Well, this “Good Morning” entry is slightly different. Gioni awoke first, and was doing that thing I do—looking out the window—but she wasn’t wearing ONLY a sheet. Still, I thought it was a good picture!

The Storylines are the heart of Ailana Geven Imagines, and they are found in the Collections section of the site.  Here are some of the most popular:

So we did get some rest, despite the abrupt start to our sleeping. Now, we need to navigate the bathroom routines and get going for the day.

We’ll be in Cairo for a few days. We have a couple of things we want to do, and I’ll go more into detail when I check back in over lunch.

Now… Going forward, there will be things I write about that aren’t pictured. And even with pictures, I’ll probably include more information, dialog, and details on the Patreon account. It accommodates more text. I’ve always posted more pictures there, so it’s not a big change.

Okay, so we are in Africa, in Egypt, in Cairo. We’re not in a rush overally, but we do have a few things planned for this morning, so, as I said, I’ll catch you up over lunch!

See you then!

Egyptian Lunch

It was a busy morning, as I expected. Now, we are taking a little break before we get on to the next thing.

If you were following my adventures last time I was in Cairo, Sasha and I did some work with an agency trying to ensure safe drinking water in all parts of the city. Worldwide, access to safe drinking water is a huge need.

As I explained last time:

In Cairo safe drinking water is a significant issue due to contamination during distribution. Although water leaves treatment plants meeting safety standards, it often becomes contaminated en route to households. This situation poses a risk of waterborne diseases, especially in areas with inadequate sanitation infrastructure.

But there are groups working on the problem.

One initiative addressing the issue of clean drinking water in Cairo is led by USAID in partnership with Egypt’s Holding Company for Water and Wastewater. This initiative focuses on improving access to water and sanitation services, particularly in underserved rural areas of Egypt, including Cairo's surroundings. These efforts include constructing and rehabilitating water and wastewater systems to ensure reliable and high-quality water access for rural communities, significantly reducing the risk of waterborne diseases.

The organization we helped out was Global Waters in Egypt.

This morning, Sasha, Gioni, and I visited the area we worked in before. We contacted the Global Waters office and arranged to take more samples this afternoon. So as soon as we get done with lunch, we’re heading back, but with sample bottles, this time.

To me, it feels really nice to touch base with something we did before and continue our efforts. Even if it is for only an afternoon, it feels good to help out.

I’ll check in next for the cliche “goodnight” picture. See you then!

Goodnight From Cairo

We made it through the afternoon, went back to the hotel, cleaned up, dressed and went out for dinner. Now we are back at the hotel for the night.

We are still sharing a room. It’s cozy, but I think it’s letting us get to know Gioni better more quickly than if we split up every night. She has accepted the fact that neither I nor Sasha are fond of wearing anything to bed. And I have warned her that Sasha tends to kick off the sheets.

“I’m not overly fond of pajamas, either,” Gioni said. “But given the size of this bed, I’ll see if I can stand keeping a t-shirt on.”

She does have a point. Nothing naughty is going to happen, so get that out of your mind!

We are all flexible people here, so we’re going to just roll with it. I wouldn’t even mention it, except I know many of my readers are tuned in to my typical sleeping attire and I made the point that our reservation had been botched putting us all in the same room…

Okay… enough of that!

We’re going to do some tourist things tomorrow, on Thursday. No exact plans for Friday, but I’m having a conversation with a friend that might change up our plans a bit.

See you tomorrow!
