Gavin’s voice resonated from the cold hard walls of the abandoned warehouse. “Natalie, there’s someone in here.”

Natalie quickly followed Gavin into the all-but-empty room. A woman sat on the floor at no place in particular within the open space of the room.

She looked up, seemingly in response to the approach of Natalie and Gavin. She seemed both startled and hopeful as her gaze met Natalie’s.

Natalie put down her M-4 and approached. “My name is Natalie. Would you tell me yours?”

The woman looked at her and shrugged. “I am Kristy…”

“Kristy…” Natalie smiled. “What happened here?”

Kristy shook her head. “You don’t know?”

Gavin responded to Kristy’s question. “We know in part. Looks like we are too late. Were you one of their captives?”

Kristy nodded. “I was. They left me because I was… difficult. They took all the young ones… left me with nothing but what you see here… They started shutting down yesterday morning… Finally cleared out… sometime after sunset.”

“Yesterday morning?” Gavin looked at Natalie. “That was when we were coming through customs…”

Natalie looked down and shook her head. “Our aliases must be compromised… He knows where we are…”

Gavin sighed. “Maybe… that doesn’t explain China, though…”

Kristy looked up. “China? They had me there for a while… before they moved us all here. Same kind of thing. One day, everyone got busy packing up and the next day, we were in a cargo container again.”

Natalie shook her head. “I’m sure it must have been awful.”

Kristy looked down. “Well… yeah… but I gave back as much bad as I could get away with… I’m about ready to get away from all this… I’ve been scavenging around the place for supplies… So I can travel… I have some things piled up over there…”

Kristy pointed.

Gavin looked around and sighed again. “Okay, Kristy, you probably have guessed we came here to see about… starting to put them out of business… We can help you get to safety, if you let us.”

Kristy stood up and nodded. “Safety… Yeah, that sounds good… For a while… But I might have some give-it-back-to them still ahead of me.”
