Just for context at this point in history there was major beef between Catholics and Protestants. That’s why Pilot went crazy at the priest and said he didn’t represent him and threw down his cross.

Interesting Context its a true historical story This drama depicts the aftermath of the most powerful samurai in Japanese history, the demon king Oda Nobunaga, who was betrayed and killed by his subordinates, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Taikoo), Nobunaga's most loyal retainer, who ruled Japan for a short period after Nobunaga's death. Most of the samurai of this period were retainers of Nobunaga and Hideyoshi, former comrades fighting each other to become shogun, a position that neither Nobunaga nor Hideyoshi was able to achieve. Whoever won this battle became the Shogun who brought about the 250 years of peace that caused Japan to flourish as we know it today and this show will probably depict one of the biggest wars in Japanese history which the victor would secure a 250 year empire

Also The Pilot is a Protestant Christian and Catholics and Protestants were fighting each other in europe during this time and since the Portuguese are the only europeans in Japan they only introduced the catholic version of Christianity so Pilots mission is to Pillage Catholic Settlements because they only want Protestant Christianity to spread

This seems like it's about to be amazing, I always love seeing the great Hiroyuki Sanada no matter how many times I've seen him play a samurai lol And Anna Sawai who plays Mariko is so fire I'd probably watch this show even if it was trash, I can't lie. W show, W reaction, preciate y'all! A lot of samurai/ninja content lately. House of Ninjas, Ninja Kamui, Blue Eye Samurai, Onimusha... interesting.

Also “fun” fact about the author James Clavell he became infatuated with Japan and Japanese culture when he was a POW during WWII. He was starved almost to death as a prisoner and until he died in 1994 of a stroke he carried food with him at all times. Some of his characters in Shogun or Rat King absolutely detest the Japanese people at first but learn to love the culture and world that is Japan.
