Foiled by bureaucracy. The Kickstarter will be going up the second week of December. Kickstarter itself wants to confirm stuff, which I guess makes sense, though didn't come to mind given the nonsense I've seen on there. I could launch it sooner, KS only wanting 8 business days, but by launching it in the second week of December, I push the end date to January, which makes taxes for this year easier on me. So I guess double foiled by bureaucracy.

I'm also working on the usual guff that surrounds a Kickstarter. That of rewards and what not. I've really only got a few, since this is a pretty simple campaign. 1) name on the acknowledgment page of the first edition, 2) the book itself, and 3) a short story.

1 and 2 are simple enough. 1 means you can choose to have your name on a page for those who supported the project for more than just the basic level. 2 is the book itself, DRM free and likely in a couple formats, though certainly epub.

3 is also simple, but goes beyond the book. I will write a short story of about 5k words for you following my usual guidelines. You get two revisions for it and as long as it isn't related to one of my pre-existing stories, get to choose whether it is released here like my other short stories or is just for you. This will be for a "I'm basically funding the entire campaign on my own" tier sort of thing.

If you have any other ideas for potential rewards, feel free to post them in the comments.

Anyway, I've also figured out the basic goal and stretch goals (for now, I'm going to be using the extra time to ask around a little). $300 is the basic goal as I said in a previous post. That is literally the "I can get the basic stuff needed to publish the book" bare minimum (after taxes and fees). Then $1200 to get that and a new cover commissioned. This is higher than I was originally projecting because I forgot to include taxes and fees in all but the first goal. Blarg. Anyway, after that is the "professional edit" stretch goal will be the honestly quite stretchy stretch of $4k. I do not expect to reach that, but would love it if I did. Yes, I am budgeting basically 2k for the edit (well, that and some wiggle room in case something goes wrong). However, these amounts are likely to change. Mostly because I have to talk to some other writers I know and some other people who have a foot in this nonsense that is webnovel publishing. Of note, I will probably end up adding in a bit of a budget to pay myself to handle this all.

Any comments would be appreciated and sorry for posting so much about this. Just wanted to keep everyone up to date on how things are going. Things should calm down until we're closer to the kickstarter launching.

Edit: Okay, I've talked to an editor I know who works with another author and I'm probably going to have the goal for editing be more of a range instead of a "reach this amount and the book gets edited" sort of thing. You can get an editor for the 2k amount, but a real pro can cost a good bit more.
