The journey from Hogsmeade Station to London was uneventful, though filled with laughter and chatter. Harry shared his compartment with Neville, Hermione, Susan, and Hannah. Together, they passed the time playing various games and talking about their upcoming plans for the holidays. Even though the train ride was long, the hours slipped by quickly, and soon they arrived at King's Cross Station in London.
As the train slowed to a stop, Harry eagerly looked out the window, his eyes scanning the platform for a familiar face. A wide smile spread across his face when he spotted Sirius standing there, leaning casually against a pillar. And, to Harry's surprise and delight, Remus was there as well, his calm demeanor a welcome sight.
“Sirius! Remus!” Harry called out as he stepped off the train, rushing over to them. Sirius grinned widely, pulling Harry into a tight hug.
“Missed you, kiddo,” Sirius said, his tone warm.
Remus followed with a more restrained but equally heartfelt greeting. “Good to see you, Harry.”
Harry beamed. “Good to see you too, Remus! I didn’t expect you to be here as well.”
“I couldn’t miss the chance to spend some time with you and Sirius,” Remus replied with a smile.
As they stepped outside the station into the brisk London air, Harry noticed something different. There was a sleek new car parked by the curb. It was larger than Sirius’s usual flashy red Ferrari, which Harry had ridden in before.
“Where’s the Ferrari?” Harry asked, his curiosity piqued.
Sirius chuckled. “Oh, the Ferrari’s still around, safe and sound at home. But I figured we needed something a bit more... practical,” he said, gesturing toward the new car. “This one’s got room for a few more passengers. Thought it might come in handy.”
Harry raised an eyebrow. “You bought another car?”
Sirius shrugged with a mischievous grin. “Well, what’s the point of being the coolest godfather if I can’t spoil myself a little?”
Remus shook his head, chuckling. “Sirius is trying his best to fit in with the Muggle world, as you can see.”
The three of them climbed into the car, Harry settling into the backseat, his excitement bubbling over. He glanced out of the window as they drove through the bustling streets of London, his thoughts racing ahead to the break.
Their destination was Sirius’s townhouse—No. 12 Grimmauld Place. The imposing, dark building seemed unchanged from the last time Harry had seen it, though it felt less foreboding with Sirius and Remus by his side. As they pulled up in front of the house, Harry couldn’t help but feel a sense of homecoming, even in the shadowy corners of the old house.
“Welcome home for the holidays,” Sirius said as they entered, his voice filled with warmth.
When Harry stepped inside Number 12 Grimmauld Place, the difference was immediately noticeable. The dark, ancient atmosphere of the house’s exterior stood in stark contrast to the vibrant, modern interior Sirius had transformed it into. The gloomy aura that once seemed to seep from the very walls was now replaced with a refreshing blend of Muggle technology and wizarding charm. The air was lighter, and instead of dusty old portraits glaring from the walls, there were sleek, bright fixtures that bathed the rooms in warmth.
Sirius led Harry into the spacious living room, which featured a massive flat-screen television mounted on the wall, far larger than anything Harry had ever seen at the Dursleys. The plush, sprawling couch was positioned perfectly in front of it, clearly designed for comfort and relaxation.
“Well, what do you think?” Sirius asked, grinning widely as he gestured around the room.
Harry’s eyes were wide as he took it all in. “Wow, Sirius! This is... incredible. It’s nothing like what I imagined.”
Sirius laughed. “Tore down most of the old stuff. Figured if I’m going to make this place a home, I might as well do it my way. And after all the time I spent in Azkaban, I wanted a bit of comfort, you know?”
Harry nodded, impressed. “I didn’t think you were this into Muggle stuff.”
“Oh, I am,” Sirius said, walking over to the massive television. “The Muggle world has some pretty amazing inventions. I mean, how else are we going to watch films? I’ve got quite the collection, actually. We’ll have movie nights, you and me. I even picked out some of my favorites.”
Harry smiled, feeling a sense of warmth and belonging. “That sounds great.”
Sirius continued giving Harry the tour of the house, showing him the various bits of Muggle technology he’d brought in. There was a kitchen with a microwave, a coffee machine, and even a dishwasher—things Harry had only ever seen at the Dursleys, but now appreciated in a whole new light. The house also had a study filled with books, both magical and Muggle, and a cozy bedroom for Harry that had been specially prepared with everything he could need.
“And don’t worry,” Sirius added as they reached Harry’s room. “I made sure you’ll have time to visit Hermione’s place for Christmas Eve. I know she invited you. Plus, we’ll go see Neville too, like you promised. You can stay here for a couple of days before heading off to Runestone Castle.”
Harry smiled gratefully, knowing Sirius had been paying close attention to his letters. "Thanks, Sirius. I was hoping to fit everything in."
"Of course!" Sirius replied, clapping Harry on the shoulder. "I’ve planned the whole holiday for us. We’ll do some fun stuff here first, and then you can head out. Besides, I know you've got your own plans." Sirius winked at Harry, though he didn’t pry any further.
Harry couldn’t help but grin. Runestone Castle was his private retreat, a secret he had carefully guarded, even from those closest to him. It was a sanctuary he would visit on his own, maintaining the cover as he had done so far.
As they settled in for the first night, Harry felt a sense of contentment. Sirius had thought of everything, and for once, the holidays seemed full of promise rather than the dread he had come to expect from his years with the Dursleys. The mix of Sirius's carefree spirit, the Muggle comforts, and the knowledge that he had a secret adventure ahead at Runestone Castle made him feel happier than he had in a long time.
“Let’s enjoy these couple of days, kiddo,” Sirius said, tossing Harry a grin as they made their way back to the living room. “We’ve got plenty of time to relax before Christmas.”
Harry nodded, feeling a surge of excitement. “I can’t wait.”
The three days Harry spent at Number 12 Grimmauld Place flew by in a whirlwind of excitement and exploration. Every moment felt like a gift, especially after the uncertainty and loneliness he had sometimes experienced with the Dursleys in Christmas time. With Sirius by his side, the Muggle world transformed into a vast playground filled with wonders waiting to be discovered.
On their first day, Sirius took Harry to a local park where they strolled under the vibrant colors of autumn leaves. They played frisbee and shared stories about their lives, with Sirius recounting humorous tales from his own childhood. Harry loved hearing about the Muggle things Sirius had missed while in Azkaban—the freedom of running through open spaces, the joy of flying kites, and the simplicity of enjoying a sunny day outdoors.
The next day was a culinary adventure. Sirius guided Harry through various restaurants, introducing him to cuisines from all over the world. They tried Italian pizza, Indian curry, and even ventured into a quaint little Chinese place where they shared dumplings. Each meal was accompanied by laughter and plenty of stories, with Harry appreciating how much Sirius enjoyed the flavors and the atmosphere of the Muggle eateries.
After indulging in so much delicious food, they took a break to catch a couple of films. They went to a nearby cinema, where they marveled at the large screens and the immersive sound. Harry was amazed at the spectacle of it all, feeling as if he were in another world. That night, back at Grimmauld Place, they watched classic Muggle movies on Sirius’s massive television, sitting side by side on the couch, popcorn in hand, and laughing at the antics of the characters.
Sirius found a deep comfort in the Muggle world, as if each experience was a reminder of the life he had longed for while trapped in Azkaban. The vibrancy, the variety, and the sheer normalcy of it all seemed to rejuvenate him, making Harry feel glad to see his godfather so happy.
As their third day drew to a close, Harry felt a mixture of reluctance and anticipation. He had cherished every moment spent with Sirius, but he also knew it was time to return to Highgarden, the magical sanctuary that had become a significant part of his life. “I think I should head back to Highgarden tomorrow,” Harry said, looking out the window at the night sky.
Sirius nodded, understanding. “That’s a good idea. Highgarden is special to you. But I’ll make sure to visit you every morning for our dueling practice, just like before you went to Hogwarts. We’ll keep sharpening your skills.”
Harry felt a wave of relief wash over him at the promise. “I’d like that. I really want to improve.”
Sirius grinned, his excitement evident. “We’ll have plenty of time. Besides, I’ve been working on some new techniques that I think you’ll find fascinating. And who knows, maybe I’ll even let you in on some of the secrets I picked up during my own training.”
That night, as Harry lay in bed at Grimmauld Place, he felt a sense of gratitude wash over him. He had discovered so much about the Muggle world, deepened his bond with Sirius, and solidified his resolve to become stronger in magic and dueling. As he closed his eyes, thoughts of the adventures that awaited him at Highgarden mingled with dreams of future lessons with Sirius.
The next morning dawned bright and clear, and Harry awoke with a sense of anticipation. After enjoying a wonderful few days at Grimmauld Place, he was eager to return to Highgarden and then travel to Runestone Castle. He quickly dressed, ate a hearty breakfast prepared by Sirius, and prepared for his journey.
Using the Floo Network, Harry stepped into the fireplace and called out, “Highgarden!” The world around him spun and swirled in a blur of green flames, and with a sudden whoosh, he found himself standing in the cozy common room of Highgarden. The air smelled faintly of cedar and wildflowers, instantly bringing back memories of his home.
Harry used a Portkey to travel from Highgarden to Runestone Castle. With a sudden pull and a swirl of colors, he landed gracefully in the grand entrance hall of his beloved castle. The air smelled faintly of cedar and wildflowers, instantly bringing back memories of his home.
“Welcome back, Master Harry!” came a cheerful voice from behind him. It was Norky, one of his loyal house-elves, who had been entrusted with looking after Runestone Castle. His large ears perked up in delight as he rushed forward, wringing his hands with excitement. “Norky has missed Master Harry so much! Is there anything Master wishes for? Norky will get it right away!”
“Thanks, Norky,” Harry replied, smiling warmly. “I just got back. I want to explore the castle first and see everyone. Is Rosly around?”
“Yes, yes!” Norky said, bouncing on the balls of his feet. “Rosly is in the kitchen, making Master Harry’s favorite cakes! She will be so happy to see you!”
Harry chuckled at the thought of Rosly bustling about in the kitchen, likely humming to herself as she prepared a feast. He waved goodbye to Norky and made his way through the familiar corridors of Runestone Castle, marveling at how the sunlight filtered through the tall, arched windows, casting a warm glow on the stone walls.
As he entered the kitchen, the delicious scent of freshly baked cakes enveloped him. Rosly, with her round face and cheerful disposition, was diligently frosting a cake. Her eyes lit up when she saw him. “Master Harry! You have returned!” she exclaimed, setting down her frosting knife and rushing over to envelop him in a warm hug. “We were so worried! The castle has felt too quiet without you!”
“I missed you all too!” Harry said, returning the hug with enthusiasm. “I’m so glad to be back. What have you been up to?”
“Oh, just the usual, keeping the castle clean and tidy. And I’ve been baking lots of treats for you!” Rosly replied, her eyes sparkling with joy.
Harry’s heart lifted at the thought of Reeny, his beloved ghost elf. “Where is Reeny?” he asked, eager to see her.
“She is in the sitting room,” Rosly said, gesturing toward the door. “Waiting for Master Harry to come home!”
Without wasting another moment, Harry dashed to the sitting room, where he found Reeny floating gracefully by the fireplace, her ethereal form glowing softly in the dim light. She turned at the sound of his voice, her spectral features breaking into a radiant smile. “Master Harry! You have returned to Runestone Castle!” she exclaimed, her voice soft and melodic. “I am so happy to see you. The castle was lonely without your presence!”
“It’s great to be back,” Harry said, beaming at her. “I’ve missed you all so much.”
As they exchanged stories, Harry shared his adventures at Hogwarts and the new friends he had made. Reeny listened intently, her gaze full of warmth, while Rosly and Norky joined in, filling the room with laughter and warmth.
After catching up, Harry couldn’t resist the urge to explore every nook and cranny of Runestone Castle. He wandered through the grand hallways, revisiting rooms filled with memories, from the enchanted armory to the secret chamber where he practiced spells. Each corner seemed to hold a piece of his past, a reminder of the adventures he had shared with his loyal house-elves.
“Master Harry, shall we have a feast tonight?” Norky suggested, his eyes twinkling with excitement. “Norky can prepare all of your favorites!”
With plans set for the evening, Harry felt a sense of belonging and joy that filled the air around him. As he looked around at the smiling faces of his loyal friends—Norky, Rosly, and Reeny—he realized that this castle was not just a place; it was a home, filled with love, laughter, and a bit of magic that made every moment special.
The afternoon flew by as they prepared for the feast, laughter echoing through the halls. Harry felt grateful for the warmth and affection of his house-elves and knew that his time at Runestone Castle would be filled with even more adventures and cherished memories. He was ready to embrace everything that awaited him in the magical sanctuary of Runestone Castle.
