Hey all! I've been dying to record more behind-the-scenes stuff for Epithet and get to work on the Outtakes and Commentary tracks), but I got the flu over the holidays! So I've been bedridden for four days instead of getting time off!

So, instead of doing those things (which will probably start releasing to Patreon in mid-to-late January) I decided to upload one of the most-requested posts: An official eyecatch/epithet reveal card template for your original characters!

These are the same Photoshop files I used in the actual show, just cleaned up significantly.

This post contains:

 • Editable Photoshop files for the Eyecatch (commercial bumper)
 • Editable Photoshop files for the Reveal Graphic (+ stat cards!)
 • A zip folder of PNG images for people who can't open PSD files

This post does not contain:

 • Character artwork (that's up to you)
 • The fonts used in the show

I cannot legally redistribute the fonts (Swung Note and Star Bright Moon Light). If I do, I could be sued for it! Sorry! If you want to pick up the fonts then you can purchase them yourself at a graphic design venue online.

You can buy Swung Note here: https://www.linotype.com/814392/swung-note-family.html

You can buy Star Bright Moon Light here: https://creativemarket.com/TuNeuwin/2924721-Star-Bright-Moon-Light-Font-Duo

If you've never bought a font before and you don't know how this works, you'll want to buy the Desktop version. That's what it's called when you're allowed to buy a font and use it as much as you want so long as you aren't selling anything for it! (I bought both of these fonts commercially for super low prices on sales that are no longer available. Normally that type of thing costs upwards of a few hundred dollars).

You could also probably find a free version or a free alternative if you did a little digging on Google, but I will not provide links to anything like that here!

RULES + RECOMMENDATIONS WHEN USING THESE TEMPLATES:

 • You are allowed to post any images created with these assets wherever you want, and you do not need to credit me (though if somebody asks where you can get the template I'd appreciate you pointing them in the direction of my Patreon).
 • Please do not redistribute these attachments for free. I know they look simple but I did spend upwards of 30+ hours figuring out the design rules for these things and then additional time cleaning them up and reformatting them for universal usage.
 • Remember that you can resize and readjust any element on these cards however you see fit! Change them to fit whatever image and character you have. I encourage you to add extra elements, especially to the eyecatch cards! They look way better that way. If it looks nice but breaks the format, break the format.
 • Note that a lot of the layers have Drop Shadow and Stroke/Outline effects on them. You may want to readjust colors on those when doing your own card!
 • Any time you're typing with Star Bright Moon Light, you'll want to keep your text all lower case. The upper case has little stars in it, which usually just make the text look weird and icky unless it's being used in a very large size.
 • If you're using the image-only versions, your editing will be pretty limited. Any drop shadows, stroke outlines, text, and other effects have been removed. But the zip folders do provide the general layouts and elements such as bullet points and stat stars!
 • Stat Stars!

I've included all three different "Stat Tiers" present in the epithet universe. Character stats tick up through 5 Stars, then 5 Orbits, and finally 5 Novae. Think of this like all stats being on a scale from 1-15. Here's how these stats work, for those interested in being lore-accurate:

95% of people in the Epithet universe are in the "Star" category, and having 5 stars in a stat is nothing to sneeze at! Indus and Mera spend all their free time training their epithets and both of them are still in the Star range. They're pretty strong! Much stronger than your average Joe who will spend their entire life sitting around 2-3 Stars. Having 5 Stars in a rating means you're extremely good at it, and it's probably something that you're known for professionally.

<4% of people in the Epithet universe are skilled enough that their stats will go "into Orbit". These people are exceedingly rare, and even those people will typically only hit 1 or 2 ticks into the Orbit tier. If you're Orbit-level skilled at something you're probably the guy that a big-name company calls in to solve problems. You've made a significant name for yourself doing what you do and you'll be very hard to replace if you quit. The average person might meet maybe one or two Orbit-tier people in their life, and maybe they've heard of a few more.

Sylvie, for example, is a 15-year old savant who graduated college and earned his doctorate at a very young age. Sylvie's stats are currently in the high-stars, but if he continues on his current trajectory then it's very likely he'll reach the Orbit tier in Proficiency by the time he's in his late 20s to early 30s.

The "Nova" class is reserved for the exceptionally rare, stupidly powerful people who come around once in a lifetime. These are your JRPG final bosses, your anime supervillains, your legendary heroes of yore. If someone is a Nova-class fighter, they have made history, guaranteed. There's a reason Zora is at the #1 spot on the MOST WANTED list and why Howie is the best contractor in the Epithet world's equivalent of New York City.

I guess this is all just me trying to say "Don't make your OCs comically overpowered, please! It actually makes them less cool!" but that's a bit of a futile effort there, isn't it, haha.

Characters can have different stat tiers in the different stats! You can even have one star in a certain stat and be up to Orbit or Nova in another.

Hopefully that covers everything? Enjoy the templates!

I dunno if this is how you did it, but I decided to take a 'random word generator' online and see what my selected 'epithet' would be. To my surprise it was a powerful one, but not in the way I hoped.... Marketing: I guess I can sell stuff really well now?

I can’t wait to experiment with this! I’m so glad you made this, thank you so much!!!

Thank you! I'm running an anime campaign game on rolegate and want to surprise my players with these awesome cards

I was really curious about the star tiers, thanks so much.

Zeeme

Thanks for all the info and providing this for us! I might look into seeing if an artist friend of mine might be willing to do a commission using this format with an OC of mine! Although I was curious, Do you think you might do an Epithet Q&A at some point soon? I was curious about some things involving Zora's and Ramsey's Abilities!

I use an older version of Photoshop that can't group layers together, so I can't edit anything when I open the Reveal Template. Could you please provide a version with all of the layers ungrouped?

Anonymous

No, I just mean that I can open the reveal template in my version of Photoshop, but I can't edit anything. Now that I think about it, I can probably just use the images from the Zip folder. I'll have to tinker with it.

What font is this?

Anonymous

Think big! Give em abilities like Bear Market, that reduces stats! And Bull Market that boosts stats! Stimulus, where they can donate stamina to heal an ally. Insider Trading, where they can steal and enemy attack and throw it back at them! GO NUTS!

Used a random word generator and the first thing I got was Combination. BAM! Epithet: Combination. Can control the combination of objects and actions! Works because I'm a mechanic in real life.

I tried separating the layers in Gimp, then exporting it as a PSD file. But when I open it up in Photoshop again, the text layers are just images and can't be edited. If you could please provide a version of the character reveal template where the layers aren't grouped together that would be great!
