PART 2 - Casting and Voice Work

PART 3 - Production

Hey all! I'm still out for the holidays (and still recovering from Epithet's final few weeks of production), but I wanted to get at least one thing on here before the end of the year, so here's the first in a series of behind-the-scenes audio posts I'll be doing!

These posts will be me, unfiltered, talking about the production of Epithet Erased from the very start to the very end, with all the ups and all of the many, many downs. Oh lord, this was so hard.

First up is perhaps the weirdest segment: How did I even pitch this weird show to a network? In this audio clip I talk about:

  • Where the idea for Epithet came from in the first place
  • The early drafts of the script and my original plans for the show
  • Pitching the show to VRV
  • Major changes in the format
  • How contract hell works
  • Signing your own death warrant!

I hope you enjoy it!  Feel free to ask any additional questions you might have in the comments below. I might answer them if I have time and if I don't think they'll come up in the future segments!

The next post will be talking about the casting and VA process, as well as hiring our entire art team! From scratch! Yaaaay!

This is so fascinating, I'd love to hear more of your process on making EE!! I do feel sorry that you had to go through that tight work schedule-it really isn't healthy. I hope you find a lot of rest over the holidays and better schedules on your future projects/seasons! Take care of yourself first!!

Dude, I was stressed listening to that latter half. I am so sorry you had to go through that. I did love hearing about the process and about anime campaign, since I only saw a little bit of it. At this point I would be okay with only one season since it was that taxing to produce, however, I think you should be VERY proud of what you accomplished. EE is absolutely fantastic, and I can't wait to hear more about its production. But for now, I just hope you have a relaxing holiday. 👍

Deadline extensions, eh? You did a good job for what you were given. Side note, where'd you get the idea for the theme song?

For Ac I just had it either playing in the backdrop, and yes, I spent an entire day watching a part, stationed in my bed :3 I honestly dont regret it!

Fascinating stuff, but criminy, I don't envy that work ethic at all. I'm glad the show exists, but man... On a side note, presuming it wouldn't break any contracts, I'd be super interested in hearing a breakdown of the show's funding and seeing how much got spent where. While I'm probably not going to ever be in a position similar to you when it comes to becoming a showrunner, it'd be interested to hear where the various costs involved go.

Well I hope you make a season 2 but if they tell you to go through that again to make it I totally get it if it you never make another season.

I’m only keeping VRV til RWBY vol7 is finished, then I’m canceling it so I can afford Disney+. Tell them that I’ll only renew my membership if Epithet gets a season 2.

"Nobody knows what they're doing."

Dude, after episode 7 aired you gained so many new patrons and followers, to be honest the Epithet Erased community has grown so much that if you were to start a Kickstarter or fundraiser then I'm sure people will be happy to donate. Also thank you for limiting info about future characters because geez it would suck to be spoiled about all that.

"[This is] mostly me complaining about contract delays, which is a VERY interesting thing to talk about at a dinner party, or if you are a corpse." Okay, but for those of us who sincerely want to know how to handle those types of situations, it's REALLY good info to have. I almost feel like this was more of a Tip Of The Tongue than a behind-the-scenes, but in a good way.
