I've spent some quality time in Blender this week and last, working  on my title sequence. I always wanted to add people to it but then life  happened and I never got round to it. Animations always take several  (hundred) iterations, and the above it the latest render in 60fps. Here  are all the changes:

  • added Toon Skeleton to the front booth
  • added Toon Skeleton with hood as the popcorn vendor
  • added AJ as a popcorn customer
  • added The Boss who walks into the auditorium
  • added various viewers to the auditorium

There were some issues with a previous version I've uploaded last week, namely that AJ didn't start walking early  enough, and there was only one lonely test viewer whom I barely  noticed.

I'm fixing a couple of minor annoyances with the new  sequence just now: some the automatic Mixamo materials are too shiny on  the viewers, and The Boss could start walking a little earlier than he  currently does. I'm going to have this ready for the stream on Saturday.

The  next step in this project is to amalgamate all my title sequences into a  single Blender project for easy upkeep in the future. This thing has  grown out of a quick test project into a recognisable mini movie that  I've been chipping away at for literally years - and I'm still not bored  of it yet. My plan is to separate all image related items into  collections so I can swap them out.

I'll let you know how it goes :-)

Jay Plays Titles - Animatic v25.2

This version contains more fixes and is rendered in 60fps: I added some more people and animations to the auditorium and made AJ start walking earlier. All animations are now NLA Blocks, and I've (re-)learnt so much about the process. I love how easy Blender makes it to convert animations into NLA Strips. The final thing I'd like to do before rolling this out on Saturday is to make the strut walker start a little earlier (he's still stationary when the camera pans over to the door), and remove the gloss from the people in the auditorium. The next step will be to merge all four title sequences I have together into a single Blender project to make upkeep a lot easier than it currently is.
