I've been researching Controllers in DAZ Studio today. They're a bit like what Blender calls Drivers. The principle is that one slider can control another, or various others. That's how Expressions work, as well as Joint Control/Correction Morphs and Morph Controlled Morphs.

While I was doodling around, I came across something else: Keyed Properties. It's a way to add multiple properties onto a single slider, almost like shrinking down the regular keyframe timeline. Imagine having a varying degree of disgust, fright, happiness or excitement on a single slider. That's even more powerful than blending various expressions together with Puppeteer, or a dynamite alternative in addition to it.

It works with regular poses too:

Imagine having various poses on a single slider, in-situ, controlled by you and what the current scene needs. People in varying states of walking, swimming, rolling around, getting in and out of a car, all interpolated on a single slider. I'm still in shock that I've come across this rather by fluke, and it's the magic behind anything from 3D Universe's Pose Architect to Zev0's Growing Up

The principle workflow is this:

  • add various poses to the keyframe timeline, spread out as you see fit
  • create a new Property/slider and dial it up to 100%
  • ERC freeze the current figure
  • select Keyed Properties in the dialogue

This will remove all keyframes from the timeline and leave you with that single slider, which now behaves just like the timeline did. The possibilities and applications are endless! I'll make a video about this, or at least demo it as part of the regular weekend stream at 10am EST on Saturday/Sunday 😎

Wow! Lol, I actually have no idea how to do any of this, but I see what you mean. Someday!

This is really interesting finding! Are you planning to make a short video? I would love to see how you produced the first, emotions, slider - it would be very handy for making similar scenes!

I'll post one later today, in the meantime here are some detailed written instructions: https://www.versluis.com/2021/06/keyed-properties/
