The next afternoon I slowly awaken feeling both sore and WONDERFUL.  My butt in particular had this glorious ache I’d never experienced before.  The room smelled like a brothel, lube and cum galore, and the incredible memories of what had happened surface in my waking mind.  I grin and stretch my stiff muscles.

“Mmmm.”  Reaching beside me I feel the bed cool and empty.  “Sacha!”  I shoot up into a sitting position.

“I’m here Ben.”  His soft voice greets me.  Sitting at the foot of the bed is Sacha, still naked but it looked like he’d been awake for some time already.  He’d been just sitting their watching me by the looks of it.  His smile makes my heart sing.  I chuckle and scooch closer to him.  We kiss once and then he leans into me, letting me encompass him into my much larger body.  His head on my chest he lets out a long happy sigh and whispers.  “My best friend.”

“Best friends.”  I say.  “Hey, uh…sorry about all that lovey-dovey stuff last night.”  In the sober light of day I now felt a bit embarrassed about the dozens and dozens of times I told him ‘I love you’ the night before.  It was a bit much, even if it was true.

“It’s okay.”

“I wasn’t really thinking straight.”

“I know.”  He whispers.  “You don’t have to apologize for anything.  Not with me.”

I hold him tight, not wanting to let go for even a second.  “You okay?”

He looks up at me and gazes into my eyes.  “I said some things last night.  Things you weren’t supposed to hear.”

My grin fades a little.  “Yeah.  Um…you don’t have to apologize…”

“I’m not apologizing.”  He says.  “I just…I want you to forget I said those things.  Okay?”

“Oh, um, okay.  I forgot already.  What are we even talking about?”

He giggles.  “God I love you.”

My grin returns to full brightness.

“Nobody understands me like you Ben.”

“Same goes for me…or for you…or…you know what I mean.”  I rub my eyes.  “Man!  I really slept in.  Usually the neighbor’s yappy dog wakes me up when they let it out.”

Sacha’s eyes twinkle with joy as he gazes on me.  “I’m glad you could sleep in.  You needed the rest.”  Leaning back he pats my belly.  “I bet my guy’s hungry, mmm?”

“Oh man, famished!”  I say.  “Hey!  You wanna go grab a bite?”

“Nah.”  He says.  “I’m just going to pop out and grab us some drive thru while you clean up.  Maybe we can have more fun today?”  He winks.  “You got a car I could borrow?”

Panic seizes my heart.  “You’re leaving?”

He tilts his head and strokes my face.  “Silly man, do you honestly think I could ever leave you now?”

“Um…no.”  I say glumly.

“Besides, you think I’d just go and steal your car?”  He laughs.  “What do you take me for?  A common criminal?”

“Just…please come back Sacha.  Promise.”

“I swear it.”  He says with his whole heart.

I let out a sigh of relief.  “The keys are in my jacket pocket.”  I nod to the door.  “The truck is parked out back.”

“Great.”  He kisses me.  Slipping from my arms starts digging around my drawers and closet for something to wear.  Everything was way too big for his slender build but he is able to cobble something together with a pair of drawstring shorts and my old Senior League baseball jersey from the year our school won the title.  He smooth the striped white shirt over his body.  “I remember when you won in this.”   He says.  “You don’t mind?”

I shake my head.  “It’s not like I’ll be wearing it again.”

He grabs a ball cap, sizes it down, and pops it onto his gray-blond.  “I won’t be long.”

“Yep.”  I rub my eyes.

“Hey…Ben.”  He says in a funny tone.  “Daniel and Jimmy, what are their last names?”

“Huh?”   I swing my legs off the bed and pull on some shorts.  “From work?  Why do you want to…?”

“What are their last names Ben.”  He says more seriously.  “I thought I’d swing by your work and tell them that they can’t call you names anymore.”

“Oh…um, you don’t need to do that.”  I say uneasily.  “Besides.  You don’t even know where I work.”

To my surprise he rattles off the address and company name off by heart.  With a laugh at my stunned expression he puts a finger on an envelope that sat on my dresser.  He lifts it to show me one of my old pay stubs.  Weird, those were usually in a drawer in the kitchen.

“Oh.”  I didn’t quite know how to respond to that.  I slip a crumpled t shirt on from off the floor.

“Now that we’re living together…”  He very gently places the envelope back and straightens it just so.  “…I’m going to need to know everything about you Ben.”  His tone was casual and friendly but with a firm note of authority behind it.  “Where you work, where you go, who you talk to, who you’ve slept with.  Everything.  I’ll need to know everything Ben.  Because I love you.  I love you and I need to know you.”

“Sacha, you…wait?  Living here?”  I stand up as his words hit home.  “You’re moving in!?”

“Of course.”

“Alright!”  I cheer and offer him a fist bump, which he gladly accepts.  “This is awesome!  Wow, ha ha, we…we can go get your stuff today if you want.  Oh wow!”

“I don’t have any stuff.”  He replies warmly.  “I’m already moved in.”

“Ha ha ha…huh?  Wait.  What do you mean you don’t have any stuff?”

He shrugs.  “Nothing that matters.”  He pats my shoulder.  “Anyway, about those last names.  What are they?”

“Sacha…”

In an instant his voice goes hard as steel.  “The names Ben.  Right now.”

I shift uncomfortably, though I didn’t understand why.  “But…why?  Why do you want their names Sacha?”

“Forget it.  I’ll figure it out once I get there.”

“No!  Sacha…”

Just then there comes a loud knock to the front door.  Sacha’s green eyes dart toward the direction of the sound and a second later he is making a beeline out of the room.  “I’ll get it.”

I tag along behind him.  “Are you expecting someone?”

“Nope.”  He swings through the kitchen and nabs a pairing knife which he tucks under the jersey.  What the hell!?  Why was he arming himself?  Without a pause he then marches to the front door and swings it wide.  There stands a bored looking uniformed police officer with a pencil and notepad in his hand.

“Hello.”  The officer greets us and introduces himself.  “This is in relation to a case we’re investigating.  We’re just going around your neighborhood asking if you saw or heard anything out of the ordinary or suspicious last night.”

“Last night?”  Sacha says, his naturally effete voice an octave lower than usual.  “Nah.  All quiet here.”

I approach.  “What’s this about?”

The officer writes something down and disregards my question.  “Nothing at all?  Just, anything you could think of.  A stranger walking in the area.  The sound of someone running or…a power tool perhaps.”  Power tool?  That was oddly specific.  In a flash I could picture the chainsaw right now sitting on my kitchen counter this very moment.  My heart skips a beat as a wave of nausea sweeps over me.

“Nah, sorry officer.”  Sacha replies.  “My roomie and I were in all night and didn’t hear anything.”

Roomie?  Well…I guess we were roomies now, though that just happened minutes ago.  He made it sound like he’d lived here a long time though.

“That’s pretty much what your neighbors said too.”  The officer nods.  “Speaking of, you haven’t seen a black Pomeranian running around have you?  The lady next door complained it went missing this morning.”

“Nope, no clue.  We’re just now waking up though.  Late night playing video games.  Honestly we haven’t been out since yesterday afternoon.  Sorry we can’t be of more help.”

Why was Sacha lying?  That gross feeling in my gut was growing stronger by the second.

“Fair enough.”  The police officer says.  “Well, thanks for your time.”

“Have a good day.”  Sacha goes to close until the cop stops him with one last thing.

“Oh.  I’m not sure if you two have seen the news or not.  If you happen to see a slender blond woman, about your age, possibly in a maid’s outfit, call us immediately.  Do not approach her or try to interact with her.  She is extremely dangerous.”

“A maid!?”  I gasp under my breath as even my willful denial could hold no further.

I sense Sacha tense up, he twists his head and rolls a shoulder in annoyance.  “Understood.  We’ll be careful.”  He says in clipped flat tone.  “Is that everything officer?”

“Yep.  Have a nice day.”

The door swings shut leaving the house in a still eerie silence which lasts a solid minute or two.

“A maid.”  I break the still.  “Sacha…you were in a…”

He spins around on me with a force smile plastered on his face.  “Forget about all that.  Somebody probably just saw my costume and…you know, made a mistake.  Don’t worry about it.”

“Yeah.”  I whisper.

He pats my cheek with a proud grin.  “That’s my Ben.”

“Sacha.”

“Yeah?”

“What did you do last night?”

He laughs.  “You don’t remember?  Ha!  Well it’s a certainly I night I won’t forget.”

“No.  Before that.  Before we met in the alley.  What were you doing?”

“I told you…”

“Sacha…”  My heart turns to ice.  “…there was no costume party.  Was there?  Don’t lie to me.”

His eye twitches then he snaps his fingers.  “Breakfast!  I was getting breakfast.  My guy’s hungry.”  He goes to move past me to go toward the back door but I shift to block him.  All emotion drains from his pretty features as he locks his eyes on mine.  “Get out of my way Ben.”

“No.”

Anger flashes.  “Get out of my way…Ben.”  When I don’t obey his ire intensifies, burning a hole right into me.  “Listen to me Ben.”

Despite Sacha’s fearsome expression I was safe in the knowledge that he would never do anything bad to me.  “No.”  I say again.  “You’re going to hurt Daniel and Jimmy, aren’t you?”

His anger boils but he says nothing.

“Sacha, you don’t need to do that.  We aren’t kids anymore.  Besides, it was no big deal.  They didn’t…”

“They disrespected you.  They talked down to you!”  His rage rises with each word he spoke before, at last, he growls through clenched teeth.  “I’ll make them pay!”  His fists are tight at his sides and his whole body trembles like a barely contained spring.  “Get out of my way Ben.”

“No!  Sacha…something is wrong.”

“Nothing is wrong.  We’re together now, that’s all that matters.  Now…MOVE!”

“NO!”  I shout back.  “I won’t let you hurt anybody.  Not on my account, that’s for sure.”

“But they hurt you and they must pay for that.  They will pay.”

“Hurt me?  Daniel and Jimmy?”  I exclaim.  “I don’t give a shit what those two assholes say.”  I sigh.  “I don’t need protecting Sacha, I need you.  I need you here, with me.”

“They hurt you.”

“No.”  I say.  “But if you go do what I think you’re about to do…you will hurt me more than they ever could.”

This puzzles him.  “Me?  Me!?  Ben, you know I would never…I could never hurt you Benjamin.  You know that.”  His eyes narrow and he lets out a snort before shaking his head.  “You can’t stop me.”  He goes to force his way by but again I move to block him.  He goes the other way but I stay with him.

“I will stop you.  Sacha, we need to talk.”

“Talk?”  He steps back, his green eyes burning.  “Talk-talk-talk-talk-talk-talk-talk.  You sound like one of those doctors.  Talk-talk-talk-talk.”  His voice breaks into that of a woman in the terrorized throes of a torturous end.  “Ahhhhh!  Stop!  Stop!  Aaahhhh!”  He flinches, his voice his own again though he was suddenly breathing heavy.   “That fucking stopped her talking.  Talk-talk-talk-talk-talk-talk…”

“Sacha!  Stop!  What’s wrong?  Tell me what’s wrong.”

“Ben!  Get out of my way Ben!  I don’t want to…RRRRRR!”  He grips his head in hands, his cap flying off.  “MMMM!  I don’t want to!”

“Don’t want to what?”

“Step aside Ben.”  His anger had turned to pleading, he was begging me to obey him.  His fists grip and ungrip at his sides as, for the first time in our lives, I could see he was contemplating violence against me!  “Please Ben!  Just…get…MMMMM!”

“I-I won’t.”  I stammer as fear enters my heart.  “I won’t let you hurt anyone!  I’ll f-fight you!”

“Stop it Ben!  You don’t fight.”

“I c-c-can fight.”  I raise my shaking fists.  “Please let’s talk.”

“No.”  His eyes narrow.  “No, you don’t fight.  You never fight.  Ben doesn’t fight.  You…you’re acting funny.”  He shakes his head once, twice, three times in a vain attempt to slough his confusion.  “You were never like this…”  He shakes again, fighting some demon inside of him, before asking.  “Who…who are you?  Where’s Ben?  What did you do with Ben!?”

“What?  Sacha…it’s Ben.  Your best friend.”  I say.  He goes stock still as his eyes slowly looks up my body before meeting my gaze.  What I see before me…is the dead faced visage of a stranger.  A very dangerous and unstable stranger.  “Sacha?”

“RAHHHH!”  Like flash of lightning Sacha swats my defenses away and is right up on me before I can even flinch.  One hand grips my hair painfully tight.  His eyes are wide and wild, his pink lips and white teeth snarling like some feral beast.  It is only as I feel cold metal touch my throat that I realize the knife had been drawn.  “RRRRRRRRRAAAHHHHH!!!”

“Nnnnnmm.”  I whine as he forces me to my knees.

Looming over me he heaves and seethes and snarls as the blade presses harder into my flesh.  My life flashes before my eyes as I feel a warm trickle of blood roll down my neck, my life with Sacha.  Growing up together, laughing together, crying together, doing schoolwork together, exploring the woods together, growing together, loving together.  Big dumb Benjamin and pretty little Sacha, best friends through it all…until that terrible day he went away.  A day even worse than this one.

I let out gasping sob and look up into my friend’s beautiful face.  “You’re still my best…friend.”

Sacha’s face contorts as fury makes way for bewilderment and then horror.  “Ben!?”  He blinks his eyes and seems to recognize me again.  His eyes dart down to the knife at my throat…and he lets it go as if it were red hot.  He lets me go and I shrink away from him in fear.  He stands and steps back.  “Oh Ben.”  He gasps.  “Oh Ben…no.”  Tears fill his huge gorgeous green eyes as he shakes his head, not quite believing what he was witnessing.  He reaches out but doesn’t touch me.  “No, no, no.”  He looks at his own hands and shakes his head then drops to his hands and knees.  Collapsed down into himself my best friend weeps. “Nooooo.”

I reach out for him and he scurries into my arms, balling up and pressing into me as if wanting to craw inside of me.  “I got you buddy.”  I kiss his soft hair.  “I got you buddy.”

“I’m sick Ben.  I need help.  I…I need…I c-can’t….”

“I know.”

Curling up even tighter he cries with a pain that reached down to his damaged soul.  “I’ve done…terrible things.”

“I know.”

“Mom and Dad…it was me!”

“I know.”  I hold him.  “I know Sacha, I know.”

“Th-th-they said…that boys couldn’t…th-they…they said we couldn’t…be…together…”  That was all he could get out before breaking down entirely into bitter sobbing.

“I’m here.  I got you bud.  I’m not letting go.”

Scooping him up in my strong arms I carry him back into the bedroom and lay him down on the bed.  Crawling in beside him I spoon him and let him cry until there were no more tears to shed.  When at last he could speak again he turns around to face me.  Just inches apart we gaze into each other’s eyes for a long time.

He takes a long deep breath before at last speaking again.  “I know you can’t forgive me for what I’ve done.”

“I don’t think it’s my place.”  I answer honestly.

“I’ll do better.  I’ll be better.  I’ll…try.”  He huffs.  “Knowing you’re here…it gives me something to hold onto.  You give me…hope.  I’ll try Ben, for you I’ll try.”  He kisses my chest and gently runs his fingers through the hairs.  “Could you…could you at least give me a head start?”

“A head start?”

“Before you call the police.”  He says quietly, his spirit bleeding.  “I-I can’t go back in there.  I can’t.  I can’t do it.  I’d rather…die.”

“Shhh.”  I stroke his feathery soft hair.  “Who says I’m calling the police?”

He blinks.  “What…what do you mean?  You know what I am.”

“I think I always did, deep down.  Nobody knows you like I do, remember?  You live here now, remember?  We need each other, don’t you remember?”  I smile.  “You’re mine Sacha.”

“Oh…Ben!”  We kiss like we’d never kissed before.  The connection of two lost souls at last together with their mate.

I knew Sacha had done bad things, unspeakably bad things, but I just couldn’t summon the will to care.  He might be bad.  He might be downright evil.  Right and wrong was for God to judge.  All my dumb ass knew was that I was in love with him and that I wanted to help him and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him, no matter what that meant or how long that would be.  It might all end in a hail of bullets but I would be there at Sacha’s side every step of the way.  I would trade all of my tomorrows, and even be willing watch the world burn around us just for this single moment of holding my beautiful Sacha in my arms.  Not that I wouldn’t try to heal him.  From this day forward I would move heaven and earth to help my friend and lover become a better man.  I didn’t know if it was possible but I did know that I had the one thing he couldn’t do without.  Me!

Chance had brought us together in that alley.  Had he not been fleeing from the cops he wouldn’t have ducked down that dark stretch.  Had I not won on that scratch ticket I wouldn’t have been out getting snacks and booze to be there for Sacha to come running back into my life.  As I feel my buddy’s soft pink lips against mine I couldn’t even imagine it not happening.  I couldn’t imagine a life without him now.  Whatever chance had in store for us in the future I knew I would forever think back on that moment as my lucky night.

The End
