書き下ろしSSを準備していたようですが、

2月は30日が無いことに先程気がついたため、今月は過去SSを掲載します。

「ふむ……ではそもそも〝労働〟って、なんだ？」

　――いつも通り、王としての職務を放棄しゲームに明け暮れる空と白に。

　これまたいつも通り『働け』と告げたステフに、空は徐にそう問うた……

「少なくとも部屋に籠もってゲームしてることではないですわね……」

　呆れ気味に――まさにその労働による疲れを滲ませ答えるステフに、空は続ける。

「何故？　部屋に籠もってゲームすることで収入を得ていたらそれは〝労働〟だろ」

「……え。あ、収入得てたんですの？」

　――確かに、収入を得ているなら、それは立派な労働だが――

「いや？　ビタ一文も得てないが？」

「あっそうですの♥　では改めて言わせて貰いますわ――働きなさいなぁッ‼」

　一瞬でも謝ろうとした気持ちを返せ、というステフの絶叫に――

「だが、今後収入を得られる可能性がある。ならこれはやはり〝労働〟である」

　空はただ、やれやれと頭を振って語った。

「たとえば――俺が小説家だったとしよう」

「……はあ」

「小説家が収入を得るためには、まず作品の構想を練る必要があるな。調べ物も多くあるだろう。その上で原稿に着工――執筆して、そして完成させる必要があるな？　次に完成した作品を、賞に応募するなりネット公開するなり。あるいは既に担当がついているなら担当に見せるなり。ともあれ読者や編集から『金を出す価値がある作品だ』という評価を勝ち取って……やっと収入が発生するわけだ。では重大な問いだぞ――慎重に答えろ」

　そう――すなわち‼

「その評価を勝ち取るまで。または勝ち取れなきゃ――労働していなかったと？」

「――――――――っ⁉」

　ならば――売れない小説家は、労働していないと？

　刊行まで間が空く――筆が遅い小説化はその間、労働していないと⁉

　かくも大いなる問いに、ステフはたっぷり数十秒、言葉を詰まらせ――

「し、収入を得ると見込んでの活動は〝労働〟と呼べる……と思いますわ。で、でも‼　お二人が部屋に籠もってゲームに明け暮れてる現在、その見込みもないですわよね⁉」

　――騙されないですわ！　と力強く言い放った――が。

「では俺らが〝プロゲーマーになる〟計画があると言ったら？」

「は、はい⁉」

　その程度の反論、当然想定済みだったと、空は即答で応じた！

「たとえば妖精種(フォエニクラム)に協力して貰い〝ゲーム配信〟して‼　収益を得られるようになれば⁉今ゲームに明け暮れているこの行為はその為の準備期間――小説家で言うところの〝作品の執筆期間〟に相当することは自明である‼　以上を踏まえて、もう一度聞かせて貰おうか。俺らのしてることが――〝労働〟以外のなんであると言うのかね？」

　――なるほど確かに、と。不本意ながらもステフは認めた。

　そも〝労働〟とは――社会と己に相互寄与する活動である。

　だが、その活動が相互寄与になるかは、準備段階では――必ずしも明確ではない。

　まして空と白は、ゲームで全てが決まる、この『盤上の世界(ディスボード)』の――一国の王だ。

　ゲームに明け暮れるのは〝自己研磨〟と呼んで差し支えない活動であり。その活動は、収入どころか、国益さえ生み出す――紛うことなき〝労働〟に他ならないのである。

　かくなる事実を、全面的に受け入れたステフは、果たして深々と頷き――

「では言い直しますわ――ゲーム以外の労働もしなさいな」

　そう――放棄している『王としての職務』を全うしろとステフは告げる――が。

「面倒くせえからイヤ♪」

　ここまでの全てが、たった九字で済んだ話と笑顔で明かした空に。

「はじめっからそう言いなさいなぁああああああああああああああッッッッ‼」

　かくしてステフは今日も頭を抱え、エルキア城に声を響かせた…………
